Mia's phone buzzed on the nightstand, lighting up the dark room with Charlotte's name. Smiling, she quickly swiped to accept the FaceTime call, and Charlotte's face appeared on the screen, her expression soft and relaxed.

"Hey, baby," Charlotte greeted, her voice a warm whisper, her hair slightly tousled from lying in bed.

"Hey," Mia replied, adjusting the pillows behind her as she settled deeper into bed. "Couldn't sleep?"

Charlotte shook her head, a gentle smile playing on her lips. "Not without hearing your voice."

Mia's heart fluttered at the admission. "I was just thinking about you."

"Oh yeah?" Charlotte teased lightly, her eyes sparkling even in the dim light of her bedroom. "What were you thinking?"

Mia chuckled softly, her fingers tracing the edge of her pillow absentmindedly. "Just about how much I miss you. It's strange how we see each other every day, but the moment we're apart, I start counting the hours."

Charlotte's smile widened, her voice turning serious. "I feel the same way, Mia. Sometimes it's like you're the only person who really understands me."

The conversation flowed effortlessly between them, from light-hearted stories about their day to deeper confessions about their feelings. As the minutes ticked by, the atmosphere grew cozier, more intimate, as if the night itself was wrapping them in a blanket of warmth.

"So, I was thinking..." Charlotte started, her tone casual, but Mia could sense the underlying curiosity.

"Yeah?" Mia prompted, her eyes focused on the screen, captivated by every expression that crossed Charlotte's face.

"What if we took a weekend trip together? Just the two of us, away from everything. We could find a little cabin somewhere, disconnect, and just... be."

Mia's smile grew at the thought. "That sounds perfect, Char. I'd love that."

Charlotte's eyes softened, and for a moment, neither of them spoke, content just to be connected through the small screen. Finally, Charlotte broke the silence with a quiet, "I really wish you were here right now."

Mia sighed, nodding. "Me too. But soon, okay? We'll have our weekend, and until then... we have this."

Charlotte's face lit up with a smile. "I guess this will have to do for now."

They continued talking late into the night, sharing their hopes for the future, their plans for the weekend getaway, and everything in between. As the conversation began to wind down, Mia noticed Charlotte's eyelids growing heavy, her responses becoming slower.

"Char," Mia whispered softly. "You should get some sleep."

Charlotte nodded, her eyes half-closed. "I don't want to hang up."

Mia's heart warmed at the sentiment. "How about this? I'll stay on until you fall asleep. You can close your eyes, and I'll be right here."

"Promise?" Charlotte murmured, already starting to drift off.

"Promise," Mia replied, watching as Charlotte's breathing evened out, her face peaceful in sleep.

Mia stayed on the call a little longer, listening to the soft sound of Charlotte's breathing, feeling a sense of contentment wash over her. Even though they were miles apart, the connection between them felt stronger than ever. With a final glance at the screen, Mia whispered, "Goodnight, Char," before ending the call, already looking forward to when they would be together again.
