Chapter I (Adeline)

Sometimes, life seems so blunt and bland that you begin to wonder what's so great about it that makes people yearn to stay alive. A simple ceiling, a simple wall, a simple bed. It drives me crazy sometimes how plain things can be. But I guess I'm the only one.~

She stood up from her bed from the loud knocking on her door.

"Adelinee," her mother said pounding at her door

Adeline groaned and got up from her bed to open her door. "What?"

"Don't what me missy you think you're just gonna stay in here all day? Get ready we're going soon."

"Why? She wasn't my teacher." Adeline said.

She shot me a nasty death glare as she leaned on my doorknob. "You keep back talking and Mr. and Mrs. Patterson aren't gonna be the only ones with funerals. Get ready, Now."

She groaned and fell back onto her bed. Adeline stared at the ceiling for a few moments before getting up. She didn't want to cause any more problems with her mother. She had enough of them already. She got up and brushed her long black hair and put it up nicely, wore her black dress that she had bought for the funeral, and put on her silver necklace that her father had gotten her for her 12th birthday.

It would be the last birthday present she received from her father before he passed away. Her father was the only person in the family that Adeline truly got along with. She loved her father dearly.

Adeline walked down the stairs to go get some food before they left for the funeral.

"Out of my way freak," her brother said knocking into her as he went upstairs with a muffin in his hand. She brushed it off and went to go get a sandwich.

"Oh my god did she really? What a whore, she can have him honestly if she's that.." Adelines sister paused to look at her

"What are you looking at?" she asked sassily

"I actually wasn-

"Well you look as cheery as ever don't you?"

I looked at her with a are you fucking stupid look. "Well funeral clothes have never been defined as cheery but whatever suits your boat."

"Yeah no it's no different though from every other day anyways." She laughed while rolling her eyes and getting back to her conversation on the phone

Adeline brushed her off like she usually does. At that point she didn't really let her sister get to her.

Adelines little sister Carrie came up to her and tugged on her dress. "Do you know when we're leaving?" she asked.

Adeline shook her head. "I don't."

"Oh."

Carrie then went off to the living room.

"I don't even know why I have to go. It's Carrie's teacher that died and she's not even bummed about it. This whole things pointless." Adeline thought in her head

"Alright all of you lets go, all of you." Adelines mother said

They all got into the car and drove to the where the funeral was being held. It was a long drive with her siblings talking about all there fun experiences at school. Adeline like usual stayed quiet which irritated her mother, but she loved it. After a 30 min drive they finaly arrived to the funeral where they were greeted by all the other guests.

"Hello Miranda lovely to see you and the children. Oh and your handsome husband aha" She laughed as my mother gave a concerned laugh.

"Feel free to take a seat. There's some food in the other room if any of you are hungry don't be a stranger we'll get the funeral started soon."

Adelines mother smiled and led them to where they would be sitting. She sat in her seat and patiently waited for the service to start and for all the other guests to come. There was an empty row right next to the row they were sitting it. A bit far but oddly empty. She looked around at how bland and dead the room was. All these grieving people in this even more grieving building.

It didn't sit right with her at all in her head. She sat and stared and stared. Suddenly, she saw someone in the row from the side of her eye.

She turned to look at the row but saw nothing there. She brushed it off and went back to staring at other stuff only to see the person again, but once again they disappeared when she looked over. She brushed it off again but immediately saw the person again and when she turned she saw a boy. A boy in a white hoodie that was drenched in blood who turned to look at her as his smile widened ever so largely, holding a massive knife in his hand.

Adeline jumped out of her chair and backed away and screamed. The whole audience turned to look at her.

"THERE'S SOMEONE WITH A KNIFE AND HES BLOODY AND- AND," She screamed as her step father came to her side

"Adeline. Stop your nonsense this instant." he said slapping his stepdaughter across the face.

Adeline held her hand to her face then turned to look at the lane. He was gone. The boy that she saw had disappeared.

"B-b-but, I saw him..- I SAW HI-"

"THAT IS ENOUGH," Adelines mother exclaimed.

She gave her the biggest death glare before Adeline ultimately sat back down in her seat.

The session came to an end and we all exited the building. Some stayed to eat, some stayed to give there regards once more to the Patterson family.

They got back into the car and her mother gave her a very cold look.

"GOD ADELINE YOU JUST DO ANYTHING FOR ATTENTION DON'T YOU"

"I SAW HIM"

"She must need to go to the cuckoo hut mommy she's seeing things." her little sister said as my older sister laughed.

Adeline looked down with a defeated look on her face and laid her head on the car window. She tried to get it off her mind but it was just something she kept thinking about.

His eyes, so dead yet so alive, and that insane smile of his that had been carved onto his face. It was so real yet, it wasn't.

"Poor Pattersons, they truly did have potential." her mother said.

Her brother laughed, "Yeah too bad old age got to em"

"Actually they were murdered" Adelines father said.

"Oh...how"

"Some serial killer from NYC escaped from the mental institution couple weeks ago. They call him Jeff The Killer. He murdered my cousin back in '95 when he was on his killing hiatus."

"What a loser," her older sister Tara said while smacking loudly on her gum.

"Whats he doin all the way here in Manhattan?" her brother Terry

"No clue, you should see the face of the guy though, tottally wack, got half his face burnt, and that smile that just gives me nightmares." her stepfaughter said.

Adeline had looked up when she had heard of this. Her head immediately went to the boy she saw at the funeral session. She distinctly remembered his burned face and his crazy smile. She had never even heard of this boy though.

"Am I going crazy..?" she mumbled to herself.
