"Well, at least the way to the wizards is clear. The trolls weren't known for their bravery anyway, and in this case, it has worked out to your advantage," said the dwarf blowing away the cloud of smoke.
The image in the smoke disappeared. Josh stifled a yawn, but the dwarf noticed. "You must be tired. I have a guestroom with bunk beds. Let me show you to them," said the dwarf, escorting them to a room. It had a cupboard, some chairs and a writing table.
"Can I have the top bunk," asked Josh, looking at the bunk bed.
"Yes, that's alright by me," said Emily, as Josh and Emily placed their bags on the floor by the bed.
"I will leave you to get some rest," said the dwarf, shutting the door behind them
Josh got onto the bed. He arranged the pillow.
Emily walked up to the writing table and lit the lamp that sat by the side of the table.
She took a quill that was lying on the table and started scribbling away. Then she tore a strip of paper. She took out a piece of string out of her pouch and tied the note securely.
Then she whistled a shrill whistle. Out of the window peeped is a mouse. It crawled onto her table and she gave the rolled-up note to the mouse. The mouse and Emily spoke in soft squeaks. Then the mouse scuttled out back the way it had come and out into the night.
"Did you send out a message?" asked Josh, as Emily got up from the desk.
"Yes, I sent out a message telling Will the wizard we will be coming to see him soon."
"Oh, right. Well then, goodnight."
"Goodnight, would you like to keep the lamp lit or do you want me to put it off."
"I think I'd like to have it lit," said Josh.
"Alright," said Emily and got into bed. Soon she was fast asleep.
Josh tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep. He kept remembering the fairy Lady Esmerelda. But slowly he drifted off into sleep.
He was woken up by the sound of tapping. It was still dark and he could see stars shining through the window. Josh got off his bed and walked up to the door. He wondered if he should open the door.
There was another knock. Josh thought that it should be the dwarf. He thought he'd better wake Emily up before he opened the door.
He shook Emily's shoulder gently and she woke up. "There is someone at the door. It must be the dwarf, right?"
"Well, it must be," she said, taking her marble to her hand, glowing like a dazzling bright candle flame.
"Will the wizard, he is here," said the dwarf. He is waiting in the living room.
"Let's go and meet him," said Emily and followed the dwarf back into the living room.
There was a man with long silver hair and a beard seated on a chair. He smiled at them and said, "Ah it's nice to see you, Emily. Is this the boy the fairies have spoken of in their prophecies?"
"Yes, he is," replied Emily looking at Josh.
"What is your name, boy?" asked the wizard taking off his spectacles and wiping them on a piece of cloth he took out from one of his pockets.
"I am Josh," said Josh thinking about what he had just heard the wizard say.
"Hello Josh, might I tell you that you are destined to learn magic? That you are destined to become a wizard like me, and most likely a much greater and powerful one at that?"
