Have I mentioned how almost all the Marked Ones are hot as fuck? Well I am yet again, reminded of that fact when Tavis says, "Let's go, Second Squad, you're up next." I sigh a little. Apparently it was loud enough for Violet and Rhiannon to hear me, because their gazes whipped to me.

"What?" I ask them as we stand in our rows of four.

They look at each other before Violet whispers, "Aren't you already seeing Bodhi?"

"We're not official. Besides, it's not my fault they are all hot as fuck. Hell, Riorson is the hottest, Tavis and Bodhi are tied at second and have you seen Liam Mairi?" I ask them. "I have no doubt all four of them could more than satisfy." A wicked smile appears on my face.

Rhiannon has the same grin as Violet blushes.

Our attention snaps to Tavis when he says, "Hopefully Aetos has done his job, so you know that it's just a straight walk down the meadow. I'd recommend staying at least seven feet apart -"

"In case one of us gets torched." Ridoc mutters from behind us.

"Correct, Ridoc. Cluster if you want, just know that if a dragon finds disfavor with one of you, it's likely gonna burn the whole lot to weed one out." Tavis warns. "Also, remember you are not here to approach them, and if you do, you won't be making it back to the dorm tonight."

"Can I ask a question?" I groan at the sound of Luca's voice. Dunne, please give me the strength not to break Codex and kill her just to rid myself of this annoying Cadet...

Guess she annoys Tavis too, because even though he nods, the ticking of his jaw signals his annoyance.

"Third Squad, Tail Section of Fourth Wing already went through, and I talked to some of the cadets..."

"That's not a question." Oh, he is most definitely annoyed. The look is kinda hot.

"Right. It's just that they said there is a feathertail?" The way she pitches her voice up at the end just to make it sound like a question is even annoying.

"A f-feathertail?" Tynan sputters. "Who the hell would ever want a feathertail?"

I glance and Violet and we roll our eyes. "It's not up to humans. Ever. The dragon's choose us. If we're lucky, they will rid us of you. Either right now or at Threshing." I say.

"Professor Kaori never said there would be a feathertail. I know because I memorized every dragon he showed us. All hundred of them."

"Well, guess there are a hundred and one now," Tavis replies. He's looking at us like we're children he can't wait to be rid of. I have to bite my lip to stop the smirk from forming. "Relax. Feathertails don't bond. I can't even remember the last time one was seen outside the Vale. It's probably just curious." He glances back over his shoulder at the entrance to the valley where the dragons wait. "You're up. Stay on the path. You walk up, wait for the rest of your squad, then walk back.it really doesn't get any easier than that, kids. So if you can't follow those super simple instructions, you deserve whatever happens in there." Then he turns and heads over to the path that leads to the canyon.

We play follow the leader as we break away from the other first years.

Tavis stops in front of the quadrant's senior Wing Leader. Nyra, I think, is her name. The spikes on her shoulders still look as badass as on the first day. "They're all yours." Tavis tells her.

Just before he walks away, I catch his eye and say, "Tell Durran to meet me in the courtyard at 11 tonight." Before facing Nyra again. I don't check to see if he heard or if he indicated he would. I do want to see Bodhi one last time if I don't make it out of Threshing.
