"I am officially certified as a marriage counselor," Kai spoke up, cutting out the tension.
"We're not even married..." Violet snapped.
"Doesn't matter," He argued back.
She rolled her eyes.
"Now, Emmy, you're first up. Be as vulnerable as you'd like."
I racked my brain trying to come up with something cocky to say, but all I could think of was, "You know I would do anything for you..." I couldn't say that, though, it would be a complete 180 from what I previously said. Ugh, me and my mouth.
"I'll go," Violet said, raising her hand. "Emmy, you're great, but sometimes you really piss me off."
"Alright, great start," Kai nodded his head in approval.
"Violet, you are also great, but sometimes I worry about your mental health."
He shifted his eyes back and forth between us.
"Emmy, I also worry about your pessimistic attitude ruining the vibes."
"I'd have to disagree."
Kai clasped his hands together," Maybe we should take a break..."
"No, this is good," I reasured, moving my neck from side to side.
"The problem is, I like to have fun, and Emmy likes to be an elderly gentleman," Violet grinned.
"Okay, hurtful, but also true," I had to give her credit. She was just too good at pegging my personality. "I know when to be serious and Violet thinks everything is a joke."
"True, true," She laughed.
Then we both laughed. Kai started clapping his hands together, "Beautiful, my work here is done." He was starting to tear up.
"I have an idea..."
Kai pulled recklessly into the parking lot of an old folks home. We all got out quickly.
"This has to be my best idea yet," She snickered.
"I'm pretty much always game for your shenanigans," Kai smiled.
A large, silver fence stood between us and Violet's idea. Kai took a deep breath before running into the fence.
"Kai, are you okay?"
He looked up at us from the cement, "Yeah, all good."
We helped him up before thinking of a new plan.
"We're going to have to climb this," Violet scaled the fence.
"Um, excuse me?" His voice shook. "I don't climb. I've never been one for outdoor activities."
"I'm going to have to agree with Kai on this one."
We looked up to see Violet already starting to climb the fence. Kai shook his head frantically. I walked over to the other side to find a gate.
"Hey, guys, there's a door latch!"
Kai came running to my side.
"Oh, thank the heavens," He said, winded, putting his hands on his knees.
"Are you serious?" Violet screamed. She was already at the top straddling the fence.
I opened the gate while Violet jumped down. Kai barreled in, took his blue and white striped shirt off and jumped into the pool. We looked at each other, kicked our shoes off and jumped in with him.
"Oh, so cold!" Kai hopped out.
"What a cry baby," Violet taunted. "He might as well be wearing a chicken suit.
"Really?" He scoffed. "I see how it is."
My first instinct was to move out of the way as quickly as possible. Kai cannonballed almost right on top of Violet. She quickly grabbed his leg and flipped him off of her.
"Don't you ever do that again," She warned as Kai gasped for air.
"Noted," He said while practically choking.
"Kai, did you wear your shoes in here?" I laughed.
Kai looked down at his feet then facepalmed. He quickly pulled them off and threw them out of the pool.
"Hey! What are you people doing in the pool?"
We all snapped our necks up to see a pool cleaning lady.
"Damn, just our luck."
"Out, out! All of you!"
We all quickly jumped out and ran for the exit. Kai grabbed his shoes and tripped while trying to put them on. Violet looked back and started laughing hysterically until she seen the pool lady was chasing us with a broom.
"Oh shit."
"Violet, she looks so mad."
I looked back again to see Kai whip his shoes in the woman's face. He finally caught up to us while smiling proudly.
"Did you just assault her with your wet pool shoes?"
"Yeah, probably not my best decision."
We all reached the car, got in and drove away.
"Ew, my seat is all wet!" Violet screamed in disgust.
"I mean we were just all in a pool," Kai chuckled.
"Don't you have beach towels back here?"
"One," He said, clearly annoyed. "I had one until you used it on Milo."
"Oh, you loved him," She put her hand to his face.
Kai reached his mouth over to bite her hand.
"Did you just bite my hand?"
"Yes, yes I did."
"Unbelievable!"
All of the sudden, a car bumped into the back of Kai's car.
"What the hell was that?" Violet asked, panicking.
"Uh, Kai? You might want to step on the gas..."
Kai's eyes shifted to his mirrors. The crazy pool cleaning lady was chasing us in her work car.
"Wow, she is very unprofessional."
She bumped our car again before pulling up on the side.
"Pull over!" She screamed while rolling her window down.
Kai turned the wheel slightly to bump into her.
"Now you've done it," She threw her head back while laughing maniacally. "I used to be a race car driver back in the day, you fools!"
"Damn, just our luck."
"This is no laughing matter," My voice and hands were shaking violently.
"Step on the gas, Kai!" Violet was practically screaming in his face.
"Fine!"
My body flew back in my seat. It was coming again, the car sickness.
Before I knew it, I was leaning over puking all over Kai's clean car mats.
"Are you serious, Emmy?" He shouted.
"I can't help it, Kai," I snapped back. "I have a very sensitive stomach."
Finally, we were able to shake that crazy woman.
"Okay, I have to admit, that was actually pretty fun."
