...
sigh
Thank. goodness.
I'm currently walking to my new job, its my third day there. is it very well paying? no, is it anything i in particular look forward to doing? especially no. it unfortunately was one of the only jobs i could find that would accept my application.
I have a slight bit of past, due to my very unfortunate ' 'anger issues' ' which have seemed to ruin everything career wise for me so far. luckily the employer didn't question me to much on my past in other companies this time... ugh but of course, a grocery store of all options was what was left..
i turn up my music hoping to dissolve my dread a slight bit. you know what, at least it's a job. its earlier in the morning but late enough now that the sun's started to pick up its heat... it doesn't bother me too much, i've never really been someone too affected by weather, i guess that's a perk of being a literal ball of flame.
i unfortunately glance forward to see i am approaching the building now. at least my job isn't that hard. i'm mainly cleaning up and stocking shelves, while helping anyone who needs it. (witch hopefully no one dose.)
i enter through the employes entrance and grab my green apron out of my locker. i sigh before clocking in and starting my shift (i just applied for my first job yesterday sorry if this isn't too accurate-)
it's still early so there isn't a lot of people luckily. i deicide its best to start my shift stocking some of the shelves that are farther back in the store, so when the store gets more busy i can move to the dairy isle. i go to the storage and grab a big box of cans carrying them out into the store.
i head over the soup isle (i so badly want to make the joke) and start putting the cans in there selective sections. i've put around 3 cans up so far before the shelf suddenly shakes and some of the cans fall down.
i conveniently hear laughter and as i look over i happen to see 2 idiots fooling around. one of them an apple covered in caramel appears to have shoved the other one, a stack of chips into the shelf.
the laughter stops as they notice me glaring at them, and as they finally realize what they've done. the green apple guy speaks up "oh, uh.. sorry man" trying to stay calm, i just gave a short response. "its. fine..." they both awkwardly walk away though their laughter quickly picks up again as they walk down the store.
great. super great. i love this job so much. i gather all the cans closer to me before i start putting them back on the shelves. just remember fireball, your getting money from this. and your options are getting smaller and smaller.
ugh. i liked my last job... it was actually kind of fun. but then i had to ruin things, i got too mad and punched the wall next to a customer, witch scared them and they filed a complaint. getting me fired. whatever its okay fireball, just try and keep this job- i feel a tap on my shoulder and flinch as i turn to see who it is.
"uh.. hey? sorry to uh bother you mate, but i was just wondering if you could unlock the ice-cream freezer?"
i was put a bit off guard by his accent, you wouldn't normally hear people with accents like that around here. he appeared to be a coin of some sorts, a grey and yellow one. (funny thing being a canadian we have 2 dollar coins called Toonies witch are yellow on the inside and grey on the outside.) also he wanted ice cream in the morning?
"uh, sure. let me go get the keys." i walked over to the backroom grabbing the freezer keys from off the hook, then walking to the freezer isle. he seemed to be looking around at the insides of the store, "uh which one did you want?" he snapped out of it and quickly replied with a smile. "oh! just the vanilla one please"
i unlocked the freezer and pulled out the tub of vanilla ice cream, before handing it to him "it's a nice store you got in here, very friendly atmosphere" he smiled while grabbing the ice cream, he seemed oddly positive and awake for it being morning and a wednesday. "uh, yeah i guess?"
it got a bit awkward after that, "uh Anyways, Thanks mate" i nod at him happy to be ending this awkward exchange and being able to return to stocking the shelves, before unfortunately hearing over the intercom-
"could we get someone to the cash register please?" -
i look around hoping to see literally anyone else heading up towards the cash registers. but unfortunately, there is none. I sigh before begrudgingly walking over to the register and opening a till, seeing the familiar yellow and grey coin approach my counter.
"oh! well hello again" he smiles before putting his items on the conveyor. i force my own awkward smile and just say "heyyy..." he puts 2 items on the counter the vanilla ice cream and some espresso pods.
ugh, the espresso makes me groan to myself a bit, missing the sweet relief of caffeine. i refuse to wake up any earlier but because of that i also don't have the time to get coffee in the morning, it's not like were aloud to carry it in the store anyway. i ring up his items as he tries to start another conversation. great.
"it's pretty hot out right now.. its nice that the stores nice and cool..." the ice cream was missing its scanner code, i sighed and started searching it up on the computer while responding, not making eye contact "uh, yeah..." he's still clearly trying to carry the conversation, despite my clear detachment from it. "um.. yeah.. perfect weather for an Affogato though i mean... "
"..a what?" i had found the item and put it onto the list, finishing up and bagging the items. looking up at him as i said that. though as soon as i questioned what it was he face lightened up a bit, "an Affogato? have you never had one?" as much as i want to return to work i am slightly curious, "no..."
he picks up his bag of items, still smiling. "i guess there not as common outside of Europe, but there supper good. it's basically just expresso and ice-cream." hm, that makes sense with his purchases. "oh, sounds good" he smiles, the conversation seeming not so awkward anymore. "yeah! you should try one sometime"
"yeah, maybe i will.." he smiles before starting to walk away, but just before he gets to the exit he turns at me and waves, yelling goodbye while doing so." i smile to myself slightly, i'm not the biggest fan of social interaction but having a small good social interaction every once in awhile is nice...
my smile quickly vanishes again as i see the next 2 people approaching my counter are the nuisances from before. oh and great, they have a lot of items..
