***Tyrone's POV***
I don't know how I feel about this. While I'm glad that Khai is beside himself with happiness, I'm skeptical.
Firstly because I don't know this dude very well and I don't know if he's anything like my own dad.
I hope not. I'll die if I have to protect so many people at once.
Secondly, I know this isn't the first time he's been in Khai's house. I overheard him and Hazel talking that one time. Back then, she said she wouldn't ever tell Khai. She also told his dad that it was too late for them to ever get back together.
Something must've changed.
Did I do this? Is it somehow because I let that other guy know where Hazel lived? How did this even happen?
And finally, didn't Hazel express her doubts to this man about whether or not he was actually Khai's father? Why would she go and tell Khai if she doubted it herself?
She's only setting Khai up for disappointment if it turns out not to be true.
"You don't seem all that happy..." Khai observes, because he can actually do that sometimes. Especially when it comes to me, I've noticed.
I force a smile.
"No it's... that's great, Khai. I'm happy for you."
I don't know what else to say.
If everything turns out fine, then I'm being sincere. If this really is Khai's dad, I am happy for him. I'm happy no one's keeping that from him anymore. At least he'll have the chance to have a proper father figure in his life.
Khai's eyes are so bright and full of life when he's this happy. I can't bring myself to tell him what's going on in my own life. Especially with my mom.
"Well, I say we celebrate!" Hazel suggests enthusiastically. Khai and Rassler seem to agree, unlike me.
I'm in no mood to party right now. I'd probably just ruin their fun anyway. And it's more of a family-related type of celebration, I don't see why they'd need me here.
"If it's alright, I'm just gonna go to bed already. I'm really tired." I say.
Rassler turns to me.
"Wait, I haven't met you yet. Who are you?" He asks. His face seems friendly, so I send him a small smile.
"Khai's friend."
"Ty I always have so much more fun when you're around, you're allowed to stay." Khai invites while Rassler shakes my hand.
I shrug afterwards.
"Are you alright?" Khai asks, his face seeming somewhat dampened for the first time since he found out who his dad was.
Fuck, I'm doing it already. Can't I ever just not ruin everything for everyone? It's like everywhere I go, I drag people down with me.
"I'm fine, Khai. Really. You go have fun, I'm just really tired."
Khai nods.
"I understand. You need rest and I'm glad that you recognize that finally." Khai smiles at me, and I return it before heading upstairs to his room.
When I get there, I change into a pair of grey sweatpants and crawl into Khai's bed.
Despite the comfort I feel from the blankets and soft, plush pillows, I still feel an incredibly deep pang of sadness over me.
I lay on my side, listening to the family downstairs sharing laughter and joy while I think about how mine is falling apart faster every day.
It's heartbreaking, really.
