Viraj's pov:
I can't even begin to describe the wave of emotions washing over me right now. The sheer joy and overwhelming happiness that Amayra has given me by saying yes to the proposal is beyond anything I could have imagined. It's like a dream come true, and I'm floating on air.
When I finally reached home, it was quite late. I knew my mom would be waiting up for me, despite the countless times I've told her to stop. I suppose that's just how moms are—they worry and wait, no matter what.
As expected, there she was, settled on the couch, engrossed in her favorite TV show. Her routine was as comforting as it was predictable.
"Why are you still up, Mom?" I asked, my voice tinged with exhaustion. The day had been a whirlwind, and while I might have downplayed it to Amayra, I was eager to spend time with her. The work had been draining, but the thought of her saying yes made it all worth it.
"How was your date?" Mom's gaze shifted from the TV to me, her eyes filled with curiosity.
"It wasn't exactly a date, Mom. She just asked me to meet her, that's all. But it was a lot of fun," I said, collapsing onto the couch beside her, grateful for a moment of rest.
"I'm glad to hear that you two are spending time together and getting to know each other better," she said as she gently stroked my hair.
"Yeah, I guess," I murmured, letting out a soft sigh. I laid my head on her lap, feeling the familiar comfort of her presence.
"What's bothering you, dear?" she asked, her fingers gently caressing my head.
"Nothing's bothering me, Mom. It's just the work. But the highlight of my day was Amayra saying yes," I confessed, a tired smile creeping onto my face.
Mom's reaction was immediate and dramatic. She practically tossed my head off her lap, gasping in delight.
"Oh my God! I can't believe it. You're actually getting married!" she exclaimed, her voice rising in excitement as she pretended to wipe away imaginary tears. I rolled my eyes at her theatrics, but a genuine smile broke through as I watched her excitement.
"Oh my God! I need to see Pandit Ji to find an auspicious date for the engagement and marriage. I hope the dates are soon because I'm so excited!" she babbled on, her enthusiasm uncontainable. I stared at her, wide-eyed, realizing just how deeply invested she was in this.
"Mom, calm down! There's plenty of time to get everything sorted. You don't need to rush," I interjected, trying to keep her from getting too carried away.
"Oh, I know, but I'm just so thrilled," she said, tears of joy now forming in her eyes.
"Mom!" I said, wrapping her in a tight hug. She patted my back and pulled away, her eyes still glistening with tears.
"I wanted to share this with your dad, but he's already fast asleep. I don't know how he manages to fall asleep so quickly," she huffed, clearly annoyed that she couldn't share the news with him right away.
"It's okay, Mom. You can tell him tomorrow," I reassured her, noticing her frustration.
"That's the first thing I'll do in the morning. And I need to let Vihaan know too. He's graduating soon, anyway," she added, her mind already racing with the next tasks.
"You should get some rest yourself; you look exhausted," she said, her concern for me evident in her voice.
"Okay, Mom. Good night," I replied, heading toward my room.
"Good night, beta," she said, her voice warm and affectionate. I kissed her cheek and made my way to my room, feeling content.
I changed into my nightclothes, feeling the exhaustion of the day finally catch up with me. The bed looked inviting, but my mind was still racing. I grabbed my phone and scrolled through the photos which I might have secretly clicked from yesterday. There she was, smiling, laughing, her eyes sparkling with that familiar mischief. How could someone so perfect choose me? The thought made me laugh softly to myself.
