Part Eight - Part Two

•••

As soon as we step out of the house, I want to turn around, run back upstairs, and dive back into the comforts of my bed. A familiar voice catches my attention, so I turn to see the devil himself talking on the phone.

Liam talks with dramatic hand gestures, explaining something to someone, which I highly doubt is important. I roll my eyes when he glances up and grins all too widely, waving his hand in the air.

It's way too early for this.

Maya notices Liam waving at us and doesn't hesitate to wave back with the same enthusiasm. She ogles him like the creep she is. Lilly giggles and tucks a strand of hair behind her ear. "I don't blame Maya for staring..." she trails off dreamily.

I have to gag when they don't take their eyes off him. Seriously. What do they even see in him? All I see is a boastful, egotistical jerk who thinks he can run the world.

And he believes everyone falls at the sight of him.

This is a complete and utter disaster. The moment Liam locks eyes with my best friend, his grin falters as he stares at Lilly. He mutters something about 'calling back later,' and I take that as my cue to grab both of my friends by their wrists, dragging them to Lilly's car.

Worst mistake ever because Liam suddenly materializes in front of us, leaning against the dark blue vehicle. He smiles at us, dimples forming in his cheeks.

"Well, hello there, ladies," he greets, folding his arms over his chest. His umber eyes focus on me, and he gives me a slight nod. "Dalley."

Out of instinct, like a mother bear, my arms reach out to my sides to grab my friends and push them behind me. I need to protect us from him.

More like Satan's clutches.

"What is it? What do you want?" I demand, narrowing my eyes at him, trying to figure out what he's playing at. "And make it fast. Our time doesn't come cheap, as you should already know."

Liam raises his hands in a surrendering manner. "Hey, whoa, Dalley. Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed. No surprise there."

"What are you trying to insinuate?"

Maya's breathing is uneven on my shoulder blade, and she's probably swooning again. Lilly, however, is trying to calm me down by placing her hand on my shoulder. "Breathe," she soothes into my ear, "in and out."

Internally, I smile at her because she's the best. Externally though, I bare my teeth at him. My mind races through various murder scenes I could execute on Liam.

He takes a step toward us, and Maya's breath hitches in her throat. Like a protective mother, I step back with my children intact.

"I'm not insinuating anything when it's the truth," he says to me, but his mischievous eyes land on Lilly again. "First of all, I'd like to say, Lilly, you look absolutely beautiful," he compliments her, causing me to roll my eyes.

"Thank you, Liam," she responds in her normal sweet voice. "I appreciate that. You don't look bad yourself."

Lilly is just being her normal, sweet, and loving self. Nothing more, so I hope he isn't getting any ideas in his stupid head.
