Jane had made it to breakfast that morning, all thanks to the redhead sitting next to her. She was still fast asleep when she was shaken away by a random Gryffindor girl. She might have been a named side character, but with eyes still filled with sleep she couldn't really remember.
When she had finally come to, the girl had told her that Garreth had asked her to come wake her up. He had told the girl she had a hard time adjusting her schedule in the mornings and needed some help. She thanked her, and without another word the girl left her to get dressed.
It was weird, all the things that kept happening that didn't play a part in the game. It really felt like these people had minds of their own, and weren't just controlled likely by her own. But she was feeling too sleepy still to really think much about it, and so started day two of classes.
When she made it down stairs Garreth had been waiting for her. He told her that they would have their first class together today, potions, and he figured they might as well head to breakfast together. She had thanked him for sending someone to wake her up, and for waiting for her to come down. He just smiled and turned to hide the pink that crept up his face. Before they left Jane couldn't help but reach over and pat him on the head- he really was the cutest puppy.
Now at breakfast she ate her fill, trying not to notice that the freckled boy was still staring at her. It was a little unnerving at this point, but she wasn't sure what to do about it. She liked that she could eat in silence, even if it came with this price. When she was done she gave him a thumbs up, and he just cocked his head at her.
"Ah yeah sorry- it just means I'm good to go."
"You sure have a lot of interesting things that you do." He smiled as he stood and grabbed his bag. She followed suit.
"Ah yeah, well I've heard lots of people say Americans are pretty different from the English so I guess we can chalk it up to that."
"You're American?" He paused to look at her.
"Oh, yeah sorry- I thought everyone would know that by now."
Apparently the things she said that were not part of the game didn't travel around the school like everything else she did. Case in point, the great hall was currently filled with whispers about the troll attack from yesterday. The words "new fifth year" were also coming from every conversation. It was so annoying that nobody knew her name- sure in game it made sense, but it still felt a little rude.
"Well I guess that does answer quite a few things about you doesn't it."
They headed out the great hall together, making their way towards the dungeons. Jane let Garreth lead the way, pretending again like she didn't know the castle.
"You're quite the potion wiz aren't you." In the time they had spent chatting, he had yet to bring up anything that had to do with potions. It was funny really, the one thing he was known for in game was a topic that seemed he avoided.
"Ah, my reputation must precede me." He rubbed the back of his neck, looking a little nervous.
"Well if I remember correctly when I first saw you, you were trying to get some kids to try a concoction you had just made. Honestly I'm surprised we haven't talked about it until now."
"Well, I guess I was just trying to get a fresh start with you..."
He didn't look at her, but she could see his ears turning pink from where she was. She smiled- Garreth seemed like such a confident figure in the game, but he very much had a soft side. Jane was really enjoying getting to make these deeper connections within the game. When she eventually came to, she was for sure going to reach out to the game developers.
