The next couple of weeks were quite enjoyable- despite the awkwardness she felt around Ominis for the first bit. Thankfully she was just generally awkward so he didn't seem to notice anything different. Eventually though she was able to move past it and everything was mostly back to normal.
It was back to classes, studying, hanging out with friends, and working in the ROR. In that time she found a few astronomy tables close by with Amit (flying was still something she only did when she had to), and more Merlin trials with Sebastian. She had also found more magical hotspots which was pretty high on her to do list so that felt nice to check off.
They had all worked through the Draught of Peace in potions and moved onto a Strengthening Solution. Other classes had progressed as well, and the year continued to move forward.
Jane was progressing as well, which made her feel pretty great. She had new spells like alohomora and Wingardium Leviosa down pretty well. With time in classes and her tutoring sessions with friends she felt like she was really starting to catch up with her peers. She had also been progressing the story line, mostly with writing letters back and forth with Lodgok.
In the game you don't hear from the goblin until the next part of his quest was ready, but for some reason he chose to write to her every few days. He would update her on his progress, but mostly it seemed he was trying to gauge what kind of person she was.
He would ask her questions about herself, and even shared some things about his own life. From all their back and forth Jane was starting to think of Lodgok as a friend. During another quick trip to Hogsmeade with Ominis again (he had killed his first attempt at a venomous tentacula), she had found him at the three broomsticks and was so excited to get to talk in person.
It was a very enjoyable few weeks, but her favorite part so far had come when Deek had asked to meet with her. The elf had finally started her journey of collecting animals and Jane was PUMPED. Getting to find the various animals around the school and then take care of them was one of her favorite parts of the original game! But, now that she was living it rather than playing it, she had some concerns.
The fact that she was going around taking animals from their homes was different from the poachers because... she was a good guy? Was it because it was like a capture and release situation? She didn't intend to keep them forever just... for a little bit. Honestly the whole keeping beasts in your vivarium seemed morally gray, but at least she wasn't selling them.
She felt like she was helping some at least though- the ones Deek told her were currently targets of poachers. She would just keep them until she eventually got rid of most of the poachers and then bring them back out. Jane had already scared away a few of them when she run into them rescuing some beasts. It was much more exciting when you added fights along with animal rescue, but it made the whole experience a lot more exhausting.
It was at the end of another exhausting week that Jane found herself starting another major part of this story. She was sitting at the Gryffindor table, eating lunch, when she felt a presence loom behind her. She spun around quickly, using her fork in place of her wand.
"Now are you going to cast a spell with that or do you fancy just trying to impale me?"
Jane looked up to Sebastian's face and rolled her eyes, turning back towards her meal.
"I'd rather just eat by food actually- now do you need something or did you just come over to bother me?"
"Why not both?" He said, taking the seat next to her. She looked over at him again- he was grinning like she'd never seen before.
