Rodney took a long drag on his cigarette, exhaling a stream of smoke as he gestured for Douglas to take a seat. "Ah, Douglas, long time no see, you pathetic excuse for a friend. How's life been treating you? Well, for me, it's been a disaster. My girlfriend, Sarah, finally came to her senses and dumped me last week, and my grandmother hasn't been feeling well. And to make matters worse, I've been stuck dealing with your incompetence."
Douglas nodded sympathetically, his expression serious. "I know how you feel, Rodney. I've been investigating Midas's past, trying to uncover the secrets he's been hiding. And I think I've found something big, unlike you, who can't even find his own ass."
Rodney's eyes narrowed, his interest piqued. "What is it, genius? Do tell."
Douglas leaned forward, his voice barely above a whisper. "I discovered that Midas had a secret plan, codenamed 'Eclipse,' before he created the Redimax. It was a proposal to genetically engineer a new species of crop, one that would be resistant to disease and pests, but also highly addictive. He planned to use it to control the food supply, holding the world hostage. But I'm sure you already knew that, being the expert you are."
Rodney's eyes widened in horror. "That's insane. But why did he abandon the plan, or did he just get bored with it like he does with everything else?"
Douglas hesitated before answering. "I think he was forced to shut it down due to internal conflicts within Vancouver. But I believe he's revived the plan, and it's connected to the Redimax. That's why I need your help, Rodney. I need someone with your limited skills to help me expose Midas's true intentions."
Rodney's eyes narrowed, his mind racing with the implications. "I'm in, Douglas. I'll do whatever it takes to expose Midas and bring him down, if only to prove I'm not a complete failure."
Rodney's eyes narrowed, his mind racing with the implications. "I'm in, Douglas. I'll do whatever it takes to expose Midas and bring him down. That fucker's going to pay for what he's done."
Douglas nodded, a hint of a smile on his face. "I knew I could count on you, Rodney. But we need to be careful. Midas has a lot of power and influence. We'll need to gather solid evidence before we can take him down."
Rodney nodded, his mind already racing with ideas. "I've got some contacts who might be able to help us. Let me make some calls and see what I can dig up."
As Douglas left, Rodney's phone rang. He answered, hoping for a lead, but instead, it was his ex-girlfriend, Sarah. "Hey, Rodney. I know we didn't end things on the best terms, but I heard about your grandmother and I wanted to reach out."
Rodney's heart softened, despite himself. "Thanks, Sarah. That means a lot to me."
Sarah hesitated before speaking again. "I also heard about your investigation into Midas. Be careful, Rodney. I don't want anything to happen to you."
Rodney's instincts kicked in. "What do you know about Midas, Sarah?"
There was a pause on the other end of the line before Sarah spoke again. "I don't know anything, Rodney. I just have a bad feeling about him. Please, be careful."
The line went dead, leaving Rodney wondering what Sarah knew and why she was warning him away from Midas.
Rodney tried to call Sarah back, but she didn't answer. He was left with a sense of unease, wondering what she knew about Midas and why she was warning him away.
He shook off the feeling and focused on the task at hand. He spent the rest of the day making calls, gathering information, and connecting the dots. And then, just as he was about to give up, he got a call from an anonymous source.
"Meet me at the old warehouse at 5th and Main," the voice said. "I have information about Midas's Eclipse plan."
Rodney's heart raced as he arrived at the warehouse. He was met by a hooded figure who handed him a folder full of documents.
"What is this?" Rodney asked.
"Evidence of Midas's plan to control the food supply," the figure replied. "Be careful, Rodney. Midas will stop at nothing to keep this secret."
As the figure disappeared into the night, Rodney opened the folder and began to read. His eyes widened in shock as he realized the true extent of Midas's plan.
"Fuck," he whispered to himself. "This is bigger than I thought."
Just then, he heard a noise behind him. He turned to see Vicky, Midas's loyal accomplice, sneering at him.
"Looks like you're getting close to the truth, Rodney," she said. "But you'll never leave this place alive."
Rodney's heart racing, he tried to compose himself. "What the fuck do you want, Vicky?"
Vicky smiled. "Oh, I just want to make sure you don't interfere with Midas's plans. You're just a pesky little fly that needs to be swatted."
Rodney knew he had to act fast. He charged at Vicky, but she was too quick. She pulled out a gun and pointed it at him.
"You're not going anywhere, Rodney," she sneered.
I'll continue with the rest of the text. I'll let you know when I reach the end.
Rodney tried to reason with Vicky, but she was too far gone. She was convinced that Midas's plan was the right thing to do, and she was willing to kill to protect it.
Just as Vicky was about to pull the trigger, a noise came from the shadows. It was Douglas, who had been following Rodney.
"Drop the gun, Vicky," Douglas said, his voice firm.
Vicky hesitated, then turned to face Douglas. "You'll never stop us," she sneered. "Midas has too much power."
Douglas smiled. "We'll see about that."
With a swift move, Douglas knocked the gun out of Vicky's hand. Rodney took advantage of the distraction to grab the folder and make a run for it.
As they emerged from the warehouse, Rodney turned to Douglas. "Thanks for saving my ass back there."
Douglas grinned. "No problem, buddy. Now let's get this evidence to the right people and take down Midas once and for all."
They made their way to the nearest police station, where they met with a trusted contact. The contact took the evidence and promised to do everything in his power to bring Midas to justice.
Rodney and Douglas left the station, feeling a sense of relief wash over them. They had done it. They had finally exposed Midas's plan and brought him to his knees.
But as they walked away from the station, Rodney couldn't shake the feeling that this wasn't the end. Midas was a powerful man, and he wouldn't go down without a fight.
"Hey, Douglas," Rodney said, turning to his friend. "You think this is really over?"
Douglas looked at him, his expression serious. "I don't know, buddy. But one thing's for sure - we'll be ready for whatever comes next."
