Why are we asking you to adapt up to the first 5 chapters of a story?
We understand that sometimes visual content can condense written content efficiently and so you may need more than the first two chapters in order to adapt the work. Please note that adaptation of any further material will be considered a copyright issue.
Will I own the rights to my webcomic I create?
You do not own the underlying rights to the story, but you do own the rights to your artwork. However, you only have permission to post on Wattpad as part of this contest.
Will the author of the webcomic be involved in your adaptation?
No. You can adapt the story however you like. The author will only be involved in judging entries.
Can I post the webcomic anywhere else?
No. You only have permission to post your adaptation on Wattpad as an entry to this contest. Posting your entry elsewhere would be considered a Copyright violation.
Can I continue the comic after the contest?
No. You only have permission to post your adaptation on Wattpad as an entry to this contest and only the specified chapters.
Can I add anything to the comic after I submit it? Can I edit the comic after I submit it?
No and No. If you make changes or additions to your comic after it has been submitted, you risk disqualification. Please only submit the comic when it is ready.
Can anything happen with the webcomic afterwards? What if it's a success?
This contest is limited to adaptation of the initial five chapters of select stories. If Wattpad and/or WEBTOON has interest in further adaptations as a result of the contest, they will contact you and begin a discussion.
Can I submit multiple times for multiple stories?
Yes. You can submit up to five separate entries but each entry has to be adapting a different contest story. All entries must be submitted before the contest deadline.
Can I mash up 2 or more stories into one adaptation?
No. You cannot mash stories together and can only adapt each unique contest story independently.
Can I adapt more than 5 chapters?
You can only adapt content from up to the first 5 chapters of each unique contest story. The contest requires only the first two episodes of a webcomic and you have a limit of 200 panels at most. You do not have permission to adapt content after the first 5 chapters.
I'm 13-17, can I participate with my parents permission?
Unfortunately the contest is only available to those aged 18 or older.
Can I submit a comic that utilizes small phrases from another language?
Yes. The comic must be in English but lots of stories also utilize expressions, words, or phrases from different languages.
How is a winner selected by the judges? What makes a winner?
We will be evaluating stories for the quality of the storytelling and art, as well as the creativity used. Since this is also an adaptation, the source material will be considered in evaluation: how the work was interpreted and brought to life.
Who are the judges?
The submissions are judged by Wattpad HQ staff but are also judged by the original authors of the stories available for adaptation.
Can I submit a collaborative comic?
Group or collaborative stories are not eligible. Only a single account can submit a story and receive the prizing.
Are you going to do this contest again?
This is not an annual contest and is a one-time event. If we ever run anything again or similar, we will make an announcement.
Can I use any artistic style I want? Does it have to be in color?
Yes, you can use any style you like and it can be in color or black and white if you choose.
Can I use Artificial Intelligence to create content for this contest?
No. Your comic cannot be generated by script, macro, artificial intelligence or other automated means. When you submit your comic to this contest you agree to these terms on the submission form. Should a comic utilize AI we will disqualify the submission.
