The airport was huge, and Ms. Swerts, our teacher, led us to our gate. We lined up to board the plane, and I was thrilled to find out I'd be sitting next to Anke, one of my best friends.

Even though this wasn't my first flight, I felt different this time. I was excited but also nervous. I couldn't stop thinking about what Nyx might do if he found out I was gone for a week. He and Mom had always kept me on a tight schedule, only letting me go to school and work. I was scared of what might happen when I got back. But right now, I was focused on enjoying this trip. Most kids my age had the freedom to travel, and I wanted to experience that too.

Last night had been rough. Nyx had been angry and started throwing things around, breaking stuff in the house. I had to clean up the mess, and I didn't finish until 1 a.m. I only got a few hours of sleep before waking up at 5 a.m. I was so tired, and the long flight to Italy was 8.5 hours. I hoped to catch some sleep on the plane.

As the plane took off, I tried to push my worries aside and focus on the excitement of the trip. Despite my fears and exhaustion, I was ready for the adventure that awaited us in Italy.
