[ Chapter five ]
After a celebration with my team in victory lane a few people come over to interview me. "First race in Xfinity and you go and win it, what does this mean to you?" The reporter asks me shoving a microphone in my face.
"Well, it's pretty impressive considering I've never really run a race in an Xfinity car, I've never raced on this track, I've never worked with this team, everything here is all new to me. But I have a feeling going forward it's going to be a great season. This is definitely a day to remember."I say as another steps up. "Your rival.. Sam, wrecked in the first few laps. How did that make you feel?" I wanted to say something, but knew that would make the press suspicious. What would someone think if I said something about me and Sam? What would he think was the better question. I decided to keep my mouth shut and just answer the question. "Well, it was good for us, definitely don't want drivers to just randomly wreck, but the good thing is he's okay."
I say smiling. After a few more questions I'm making my way back to my hauler. "Hey." I hear from behind me, a rather familiar voice. I turn around with a look like "What the heck do you want?" On my face. "I don't want to hear from you." I reply walking to my trailer. As I get closer to my trailer I take the top part of my fire suit off, putting it around my waste, it was super hot and I wanted to change out of my gear as soon as possible. "I just wanted to come and congratulate you." He replied. What? Congratulate me? I thought we were enemies.
"Thanks. I guess." I replied low. "Okay I'm coming over here to congratulate you and this is how you act?" He says loudly. "Sam I didn't ask you to come over here and do this." I replied with attitude. Sam scoffs, "I did it because.." Sam didn't finish his sentence, he looked away before he looked back, I had my arms crossed over my chest. "Never mind." He said turning away. "Sam, just." Before I could say anything else he had walked away.
I opened my door to my trailer and slammed it after I had got inside. I changed out of my fire suit and grab a water bottle. I sat down on the couch and blamed myself for the interaction that had just happened. Why did I need to be so stupid all the time? I asked myself that every day of my life almost. The same question. Repeated in my head. After a few minutes I knew what I needed to do.
Chapter six
(Sam's POV)
I walked away frustrated, I was just trying to congratulate her and this is how she acts? Wow. She's just really some stuck up, brat with no real respect for anyone else. She probably doesn't even feel bad when she treats other's that way. Her parents must be so proud. I make it back to my trailer a so open the door, throwing my phone on the couch I grab a water and drink some of it. I leaned on the kitchen counter debating on what to do. As my uncle walks in I stand up, not excepting him to come in like that.
"I saw a little interaction with someone not too long ago." He says coming into the small kitchen. Oh my gosh I pray he didn't see my interaction with Raven. "She seems like a feisty young girl." He replied leaning on the counter. "Who?" I ask looking at him, as I lean on a counter a little away from him, keeping some distance between us.
"You know exactly who I'm talking about, Sam." He replied staring me down. It was like he was staring directly into your soul when he looked at you. It always sent shivers down my spine. "Who Raven?" I asked going a little quiet. "Yes! That one!" He says standing up. "Why don't you tell me about her?" He says grabbing a beer from his fridge.
Gosh. I knew what this meant, for one, he wasn't even going to listen to the conversation and two.. well, I best keep that to myself. "You know I don't like her or anything, Pa." I said as I looked at him. "Oh son, I can tell when you're into a girl. You like her." He replied sitting down on the couch. He looked over and saw Sam's phone, as he picked it up he read something. "What's this?" He asked reading further into it. "Pa, no stop!" I said as I walked over rather quickly.
He read over it quick, a look of disappointment on his face. "What the hell?" He said looking up at Sam. Too late. Here goes everything. "The team's looking at not signing you next year because of this new girl? I didn't do everything for you for this." He says as he gets up. "Pa please
Don't." I say as I cower away. He grabs me by the arm and punches me right in the side of the face. "You better straighten up or so help me it won't be a punch in the face next time." He says pushing me back. He walked out the door as I felt pain in his jaw, pain I haven't felt before.Sure my Uncle had punched me quite a few times, ever since I started taking care of him that's all that had happened. I went into the bathroom, a huge bruise already coming across my face. Gosh what am I going to do? Suddenly I heard a knock on the door.
(Raven's POV)
I sat there for a few minutes debating on what I wanted to do. When finally I got up and grabbed my hoodie, making my way over to Sam's trailer. I knocked on the door hoping he'd answer so I can apologize. When he opened the door something was.. off.. "
"Oh my gosh Sam, what happened?" I asked stepping in a little. "Please I don't want to talk about it why are you here?" He asks opening the door a little more. "I came to apologize but apparently there's better things that need to be done, who did this to you?" I ask as I step inside. I put my hand on Sam's as I make it let go of the door and I shut it. "It's nothing." He replied turning away. "Sam, it's obviously something. Please don't just shut me out like this!" I say walking up to him."Fine! You really wanna know?!" He asks as he turns around throwing his hands up. Gosh him talking looks like it hurts him, I can see the way he grabbed the side of his face. "Yes, Sam. Please." I said walking up to him again. He walked away and sat down on the couch, "My uncle did it." He replies quietly. I look at him, a look of confusion. "Why?" I reply as I walk over.
He goes silent for another minute. "Sam. Talk to me." I reply as I sit down next to him. "He looked at a text on my phone and figured out that my team might not be signing me again next year." He replied putting his head in his hands. Gosh, this was news to me too. His team not signing him? Wow. "Sam look at me." I said as I lightly put my hand on the good side of his face. "How long has this been going on?" I ask looking at him. "A few years. Ever since my parents told me I needed to start taking care of him." He replied looking at me. "Have you talked with your parents?" I ask. "I'm a grown man, what are they going to do?" He replied madly. "Sam that's not what I asked. This can't keep happening." I reply looking at him.
"Can you get me some Tylenol or something?" He asks grabbing his jaw again. "Here let me see." I reply shifting my position on the couch. I look at him as I sit down on his lap, awkward a little.. I run my fingers over his jaw as he winces. "I know it hurts just hold on." I reply in a low, soft voice. He looks at me, "Raven I-." He says as I look at him. "You're fine." I reply letting go of my soft hold on his jaw. "It's just a little bruised." I reply looking at him. "Raven please." He says lightly grabbing my hand. I look down for a second before looking back up at him, what is he doing?
"What Sam?" I ask looking at him. "I just can't do this anymore." He says looking at me. "Do what?" I ask repositioning myself on his lap. "I know, I know how I was rude earlier and I hated how I acted, but I just care for you so much, more than I should and I just can't keep that to myself anymore." He says looking at me. "Sam I'm usually not that bratty, but when I am, it's only around people who I know can handle it and match my energy." I reply smiling.
"I'd so kiss you right now, but with your jaw that might not be the best idea." I reply kissing him on the forehead. I smile as I look at him, "We'll just take it slow and see how it goes, k?" I say looking at him. "Yeah. Yeah, I like that." He replies we a smile.
