22. Chess

In the cozy hotel room of Peninsula Hong Kong, Wei Wuxian, Wei Ying, and Lan Wangji gather around a chessboard because this room is warm, with soft light casting shadows on the walls.

In Lan Wangji's room a few glasses of alcohol placed on the table, ready for the game they're about to play.

Wei Wuxian is arranging the chess pieces on chess board while saying, “Alright, let's get started. Wei Ying and I will take turns making moves from one side. Little brat, are you ready?”

Lan Wangji nods his head in agreement and he replies, “Yes, I’m ready but I haven’t played chess very much.”

Wei Ying is grinning very proudly and he replies, “No problem. We'll guide you through it. Just follow our lead and try your best.”

The game begins when Wei Wuxian and Wei Ying quickly coordinate their moves, showing their skill and strategy.

Lan Wangji watches carefully but struggles to keep up as he has never played chess before and does not know how to play the game well.

Wei Wuxian makes his first move and says, “Okay, your turn but you have to be a big player. You have to play carefully or you have to take a sip of alcohol every time you lost.”

Lan Wangji is hesitantly moving a piece and he replies, “I hope this is right.”

Wei Ying is examining the board and speaks, “Hmm, not quite. You've missed an important part of the strategy. Let me show you.”

Wei Ying explains the move to Lan Wangji even despite their help, omega seems to keep making mistakes, so each time he loses a move, he has to take a sip of alcohol.

Lan Wangji is taking a sip of alcohol and replies, “This is a bit harder than I thought.”

Wei Wuxian is smiling and teasing him, “Don't worry, Little brat. It's all part of learning. Just keep trying.”

The game continues, with Lan Wangji taking more sips as he loses each round and his movements become a bit slower, and his concentration waves.

Wei Ying is noticing Lan Wangji’s struggle and he suggests him, “Little omega, You seem a bit off. Maybe you need to take a short break.”

Lan Wangji is looking a bit dizzy but he replies, “I'm fine gege. I just need to focus on the game.”

Lan Wangji takes another sip, but now his head starts to spin slightly but he tries to steady himself, but his coordination is becoming less precise.

Wei Wuxian says very gently, “How about we go over some basics again? It might help.”

Lan Wangji is nodding slowly and replies, “Yes, I could use some more practice.”

Wei Wuxian and Wei Ying take a moment to explain the strategies and moves again.

Lan Wangji listens carefully, trying to absorb the information despite his growing intoxication.

Wei Ying suggests him, “Little omega, try to think a few moves ahead. That way, you can anticipate what we might do.”

Lan Wangji is trying to focus on his game so he mutters, “Ying gege, thank you for helping me now I’ll keep that in mind.”

With renewed determination, Lan Wangji returns to the game and he attempts to apply the new strategies but continues to struggle.

Each time Lan Wangji loses, he drinks more alcohol, and his movements become increasingly unsteady.
