Y/N
The taxi ride had been quiet for a while, the city lights of Yokohama flickering past us. I was still trying to calm down after the encounter with Officer Asunagi, my thoughts racing with everything that had happened. Edogawa sat beside me, seemingly lost in thought, his arms crossed and his gaze fixed out the window.
Suddenly, he broke the silence.
"Y/N." he called, his voice calm but carrying an undertone of urgency. I turned to him, a bit surprised.
"Why?" I asked, curious about what had suddenly caught his attention.
He didn't look at me, instead, his gaze was focused straight ahead. I followed his line of sight and realized we had come to a stop at a red traffic light. People were crossing the street on the pedestrian lane in front of us, and I recognized the location immediately.
"Kinko-dori Avenue..." I thought, noting the familiar surroundings.
Just as I was about to relax, Edogawa's hand suddenly gripped my right arm, the tightness of his hold sending a wave of alarm through me.
"What did you tell the driver we were going to?" he whispered, his voice low and serious.
I blinked in confusion, searching his face for answers.
"Nippon Maru Memorial Park..." I whispered back, my voice tinged with uncertainty.
"Why?"
He finally turned to face me, his expression sharp and focused. "Look to your left."
A chill ran down my spine as I did as he instructed, turning my head to the left. My eyes widened in shock as I saw a building that was all too familiar.
"Kaikyu Group Headquarters" the sign read, its letters bold and unmistakable.
"If we're here, that means..." my mind raced, piecing together the realization.
Edogawa leaned in closer, our bodies brushing against each other in the confined space of the taxi. I could feel his tension, his seriousness, and it only heightened my own anxiety.
"We just passed the Memorial Park you spoke of. About three minutes ago." he said, his voice devoid of its usual casualness.
I quickly activated my "Mind's Eye" tracing back the route we had taken. It didn't take long to confirm his words. We had indeed passed the park several minutes ago, and now we were about 1.2 kilometers away from it, far from our intended destination.
"So, this taxi driver is a..."
As the situation became clear, Edogawa reached into his chest pocket and pulled out his glasses. He put them on briefly, then removed them, looking down at the floor of the taxi. The number of pedestrians in front of us began to thin out, and I could feel the tension in the air thickening.Edogawa suddenly grabbed my coat, slipping his glasses into my pocket.
"Get out of here" he said firmly, his tone leaving no room for argument.
My eyes widened at his command. "What?!" I whispered.
"Get out of here, and call the Inspector." he repeated, his voice louder this time, enough for the driver to hear.
