Neha's house was really beautiful. The bungalow was surrounded by a large wall for safety purposes. It also had a lovely little garden on the left side of the entrance, with some seating areas for having tea and spending leisure time. On the right side, there were many flowers and some benches for sitting and relaxing. It was a two-story bungalow with a huge terrace, which added to the beauty of the home.
We entered the house and were amazed by how well it was maintained. I looked at Amit, and he smiled. We walked to the sofa seating and sat down.
"What would you like to have?" Neha's grandmother asked. "Oh, no, nothing," he replied with a smile.
"Hey Amit, how come you're here?" an unfamiliar voice came from behind us. "It should be Neha's dad," I mumbled. "Yes, Shekhar Uncle," Amit nodded. He stood up and greeted Uncle, and I did the same.
"How are you, Amit? Long time no see," Shekhar Uncle said.
"Yeah, with studies, you know how it is—classes from morning to evening and barely any time to go out," Amit replied, glancing at me. I nodded in agreement.
Shekhar looked at me and said, "You didn't introduce your friend." He smiled.
"Oh yes, this is Ravi. We study in the same class," Amit introduced me.
"Hello, Uncle. You really have a nice house," I said. "Oh, thanks," he replied with a smile.
"So, you're all leaving for Chennai?" Amit asked.
"Yeah, how did you know?" Shekhar asked. "Oh, right. Neha must have told you," He added.
"Yes, she mentioned it, and that's why all the packing is going on?," Amit said.
"Yes, we're leaving on Monday," Uncle confirmed.
"So, you're all heading to Chennai?" I asked.
"Yes, that's right. I'm not sure about everyone, but I guess my mom might stay. Our caretaker will also be here to look after her," he said. "I've been insisting so much that Mom come with us, but she's not ready to listen," he added, looking at Grandma.
"No, Shekhar, I'm fine here. City life doesn't suit me. I'm happy here," she said with a laugh.
"She's right; she has spent most of her life in this house, and it would be hard for her to move somewhere else," I said.
"Yes, that's also correct," Shekhar agreed. "So, you're both here just to say goodbye?" he added with a smile.
"No, Uncle, actually we were looking for a home for one of our professors. She needs a place on rent. We searched across the village but had no luck. We were thinking that if you're leaving for Chennai, you might be open to renting out this bungalow," I explained all at once.
"Well, haha, I never thought about renting out my house. But I can consider it," Shekhar said with a laugh.
"Meena Madam is really in need of a place to move into. Her landlord has asked her to vacate the house within a week," Amit added.
"Oh, that's rude. Well, umm, yeah, I mean, she can stay here, but you know, will she be able to travel 2 km daily to the college from here? Also, no one will be here with her except my mom and the caretaker."
"No worries, Uncle. Meena Madam actually wants a peaceful and quiet place, and she is very friendly. She can stay with your mom, share the bungalow, and take good care of her," I said.
It seemed like he liked the idea.
"Alright, that's fine with me. As long as she likes this bungalow, we can put it up for rent," he said with a smile.
