Haven

I open my eyes and am a little disoriented. Blinking I take in the bedroom around me and it all comes back with a sudden jolt! Memories of yesterday flood my mind and my heart squeezes with pain. Everything happened so fast, I didn't have time to grieve and it all hits me now. Remus is a lot older than me, and before yesterday he had always treated me like fragile glass.

I rise from the bed robotically as everything seems surreal. Ever since I have known Remus, even as a kid, he has had a terrible temper. I witnessed it before. As children, I was probably eight and Remus was sixteen. He was competing in a sparring contest when his opponent suddenly laughed for some reason. I don't know if I ever found out why. But Remus became enraged, accusing the other male of laughing at him. He attacked with a sudden ferocity and it took six grown enforcers to peel him off the poor male. He was injured badly and had to be transported to the main hospital in Stone City where he stayed for several weeks.

Even though he had this raging temper, he was always kind toward me. From an early age, I used my gift to calm him, when I came into my power. No one ever knew it was me that calmed his storms, but I did and I held it in my heart. I grew up loving the kind, gentle giant that was Remus. Until yesterday, when I saw the murderous rage in his eyes. Gone was my gentle lover and after seeing that anger, after meeting that side of Remus, I don't ever want to return to him. He had never treated me that way before and he will never get the opportunity to do so again.

Still lying in bed, I reach for my phone on the nightstand. I need to find a local shop to obtain some herbs and remedies, so I search on the internet. I find a local shop called Wicked Wolf Wares just a couple of blocks from my building.

I take a quick shower and dress. I put on a facemask over my mouth. This isn't necessary for health reasons; I am attempting to disguise myself. I slip on an oversized hoodie, and pull the hood securely around my head. After adding a pair of sunglasses, I travel the two blocks to stock up on necessities.

Wicked Wolf Wares is a cute little boutique-type shop with a huge selection. As I search the shelves, a petite she-wolf approaches. "Can I help you find something?" She offers.

I already have a basket full of various items I need, such as another bottle of Scent-Off Spray. "I didn't know they made Scent-Off in capsules." I muse as I grab a bottle from the shelf. "How does it work? Is it as reliable as the spray or lotion?"

"I think it is more reliable." She answers. "You simply take one every morning and it neutralizes your scent all day. Unless, you work it off exercising." She added.  "Then you may need another dose."

I grab a couple more bottles and add them to my basket. "I am familiar with the brand, so I have complete faith, but if for some reason it doesn't pair well with my body chemistry can I return them?"

"Yes. For store credit only though."

I nod. "I am also looking for a glamor spell. I need something reliable that works all day. What do you have in stock?"

"Let me show you, over here." She walks over to the other side of the shop and stops at the back wall. "What kind of glamor are you looking for?"

"I want one that is totally opposite of my current looks. Dark hair, dark eyes, Less curves and more boyish. I still want to look like a girl, but just a "plain Jane". I want to be unnoticeable. Do you have anything like that?" I ask.

"While most of these glamors enhance beauty, I think I have something that will work." She plucks a dusty bottle off the shelf and blows on it, sending a cloud of choking particles into the air. "Ah. Here we are." She cleans the label with her finger and shows it to me. Concealify Glamor Fade: Effortlessly Blend into the Background. "I don't have many customers ask for this one. They usually want the opposite." She opens the top and removes a capsule. "Here, try one to see if it works for you."
