Alexa's POV:

Okay, so maths was... Interesting.

Fletcher and I didn't talk much after our ridiculous word vomit situations but we did glance and smile at each other quite frequently throughout the hour-long lesson. It may not seem like much but trust me, after all these years, it feels like we've taken a hundred steps forward.

Who would've thought we would actually start to acknowledge each other just because he fell on top of me? Certainly not me, that's for sure.

"Alexa!" I heard my name being called from behind me. I turned to see Matt charging towards me. I knew he wouldn't hurt me but I couldn't help but flinch back from him slightly.

He didn't seem to notice as he gripped my upper arms with a playful and amused look in his eyes. "Will you go on a date with Fl-"

He didn't get to finish his sentence as a panting Fletcher kicked him in the back of the knees, causing Matt to collapse to the floor.

"You're such an asshole!" Fletcher wheezed. He looked as if he'd been running after Matt; his breaths quite ragged. I tried to ignore the fact that every time he respired, his shirt clung to his muscular chest. A blush rose in my cheeks just at the thought so I casually hid behind one of the textbooks I had in my hands.

"I'm the asshole? You just kicked me to the floor!" Matt exclaimed, not bothering to rise off the ground.

"With good reason!" Fletcher muttered through gritted teeth.

"Um... I'm just gonna go..." I said awkwardly, turning on my heels.

"No!" Matt and Fletcher exclaimed simultaneously, causing me to jump and turn back to face them.

Fletcher looked shocked that he'd actually said anything and sheepishly looked down at the floor. Matt - still on the floor - noticed this and sniggered.

Was I missing something?

Matt picked himself up off of the floor and dusted his shirt off before waking towards me with a crooked smile. "How about you, me and Mr. Blushy over there go get some ice-cream?" Matt asked. As soon as Matt called him Mr. Blushy Fletcher started muttering incoherent things to himself grumpily. I couldn't hear all of them but I definitely heard something along the line of: "I'm not blushing; it's hot today. Stupid best friend thinks he's so smart..."

I giggled slightly. "I'm going to start calling you Mr. Blushy from now on, okay?" I teased, directing the comment towards Fletcher.

He glared at me and stuck his tongue out childishly which only made me giggle more.

"So? How about it?" Matt asked expectantly.

I shrugged. I didn't really want to go home but I didn't really want to spend time with people I barely knew. Sure, they were nice now but what about later, when they decide I'm a freak and fall into line with the social hierarchy; deeming me unworthy of their friendship?

"I'm taking that as a yes," Matt decided before taking my wrist in his hold and towing me towards the exit of the school. I could feel the warmth of his hand near my skin, through the material of my jumper, and began to panic slightly.

"Um... Matt..." I started.

"Yes, sugar?" He questioned.

Sugar?

"Um... Can I have my wrist back, please?" I asked shyly.

"I don't know, can you?" He playfully smirked at me over his shoulder.

"Um..." I didn't really understand what he meant by that.

"Stop being an ass, Matt." Fletcher said coming forwards and prying Matt's hand from my wrist. I didn't even notice that he was following. "Go back to being an idiot; it suits you better," he teased.

"Hardy-har-har," Matt said sarcastically with an eye roll. "You should go back to waiting on the corner; I heard the gigolo profession picks up this time of year," Matt counteracted, jokily. I wanted to laugh but smacked my hand over my mouth to prevent it.

"You would know," Fletcher smirked. I giggled slightly.

These two threw insults back and forth all the way to the ice-cream shop but never did they ever get offended. It was obvious they had been friends for a while...

Maybe being friends with them wouldn't be too bad... It would sure be interesting; that's a given.
