It was only a week later that I could complete the painting. The painting was of lightning striking the earth, and strong winds gusting around it. I had kept the painting dark, bloody -it was erubescent lightning after all- and beautiful, just the way Hali likes things. The painting was imperfectly perfect, and I couldn't wait to show it to him.
Blood rose to my cheeks just thinking about his reaction. Oh Hali...
My phone started buzzing under my pillow. I quickly got off my stool, and grabbed my phone from underneath the pillow, and checked the caller ID. It was Raven.
Yes, surprise! In the one week it took to complete my painting, I became friends with Raven through Ice. And guess what, she isn't antisocial or socially awkward or anything. She's just... selectively social. She opens up with only a few genuine people, or atleast with those she thinks are genuine, and the rest of the time, she maintains a cold facade to keep away useless conversations and relationships. She's pretty nice, actually, if you have the patience to get to know her. And yeah, she enjoys dark humour. Hali is so gonna love her.
"Hewoo, Raven!" I greeted, a cheerful expression on my face, my voice smiling.
"Hey, Cy. Have you completed your painting? You said yesterday you would take a few more hours?" Her raspy voice entered my ears. It looks like she had just woken up. It was eleven on a Sunday morning today, afterall. No wonder she slept in longer.
"Yup, I just completed it! Wanna take a look?"
"Actually... Can you just come over to my place? I- I have something to tell you." The tone in her voice... I didn't like it. Not one bit. Something was obviously wrong.
"It's okay, Raven. I am coming. Send me your address, will ya? See you in ten," and I disconnected the call, and quickly pulled on a blue jumper, grabbed my hoverboard and phone, and rushed outside to our lawn. Mum wasn't home, so I probably won't have trouble using my powers.
I stared at the screen of my phone, looking at the address she sent me, and I looked around, creating a mental map to reach the place. "Okay. Got it," I mumbled, and steadying myself on the hoverboard, flew up high into the air with a gust of wind, and flew over to Raven's place. It's not like I can't fly without my hoverboard. I just feel it's cooler this way.
And just like I promised, I was there outside her door in ten minutes. I pressed the doorbell, touching the hoverboard, and it dissolved into the air just as Raven opened the door, dark eyebags decorating her face, a frown making her look scary.
"R-Raven? Everything okay?" I stammered, looking at her condition. What exactly happened?
"Just come inside," and she pulled me inside her house, and closed the door. I turned my head and gaped at the interiors of her house. She's smoking rich! Holy shit, dude! She has got designer furniture in her house, expensive paintings and accessories adorning the walls of her drawing room. The whole place has a beige matte finish, making it look oh so sophisticated. I kind of grew excited to have a look at her bedroom, cuz well, her parents don't live with her. They are diplomats and mostly stay outside the country for work. They come during the holidays, based on what Raven had told me, but judging by her expression, it doesn't seem like they bother to come even during holidays.
"Come over. There's my painting room." She started going up the stairs.
Dang, she has a separate room for painting as well? She is rich...
The painting room, as she calls it, is on the first floor of the house, a dingy little room she didn't bother filling up with colours. Against the wall on the right were stacked at least a dozen canvas boards and a little away from that were kept easels of all sizes. On the left, there was a small white shelf stuck to the wall, on which she had precariously kept canvas books, paints and brushes. She has got a lotta them. And in all honesty, I won't mind painting here.
