"Very soon you will smile and say,
'God,this is more than what I prayed for'"

I swear, Rose is a little storm wrapped in soft whispers and innocent glances

I swear, Rose is a little storm wrapped in soft whispers and innocent glances. I tried to focus on my screen-tried being the keyword here-but every time I looked down at her, she'd tilt her head, giving me that wide-eyed look, as if I'd just denied her candy.

She was perched on my lap, her knees tucked neatly to one side as though she were a queen on her throne.

Her arm draped casually over my shoulder, her fingers playing absentmindedly with the strands of my hair at the nape of my neck.

She was my kryptonite-sweet, stubborn, and relentlessly distracting.

Gaze was focused on the screen in front of us, her other hand rested lightly on my chest, the warmth of her touch seeping through my shirt like a distracting spell.

Her scent was a drug I didn't have the willpower to resist. I had half a mind to toss the laptop aside and let her win this battle of stubbornness.

But no. Not tonight. Email those slides first, then give her all the attention in the world.

"How do you even read this?" she murmured, tilting her head at the slide filled with tiny, dense text.

"By using my brain," I replied, flicking my gaze to her. She looked entirely too comfortable.

And entirely too distracting.

"You know," I started, attempting to keep my voice steady, "this would go a lot faster if you weren't treating me like a human armchair."

She tilted her head up to meet my eyes, her lips pulling into a soft pout. "But you're so comfortable."

I couldn't help the smirk tugging at my lips. "Comfortable? I'm not a couch."

"No," she admitted, her voice soft and teasing. "But you're warm. And you smell nice."

God help me.

Her lips curved into a faint pout. "You're no fun, Aadam."

No fun? Oh, come on, sweetheart.

"I'm literally fun incarnate." I countered, typing another sentence onto the slide. "But some of us have responsibilities, you know?"

She wrinkled her nose at me, and I couldn't help but laugh.

"Fine," I said, leaning back slightly, letting my hands rest on her waist. "If I'm so boring, what do you suggest I do instead?"

Her eyes lit up, and for a moment, I regretted asking. Rose's brand of "fun" was unpredictable at best.

"Pay attention to me," she declared as if it were the most obvious answer in the world.

Of course! What would my day be without Renna Rose Lancaster ruining every shred of productivity?
