Time passed.

It felt like Adeline was slowly adjusting to this new world. Each day she woke up, she began to feel more like Malia and less like her old self. Slowly, she had begun to forget the little details of her original life. She couldn't remember the colour eyes the cat had, the one that she'd always feed on the way to work. She couldn't remember the name of the band that her friend had recommended, even though it was one of their songs she had listened to last. She couldn't remember the faces of her coworkers. She couldn't remember the pattern of the sheets she slept on before being transported to this new realm.

A part of her was even starting to doubt her previous existence.

Maybe Adeline Blanchet had never existed, maybe she truly was Malia Beaumont, and her memories were some weird hallucination she'd had after falling in the forest and hitting her head. Maybe she created her other self to cope with what a horrible person she had been. There were far too many unexplainable details about who she was, and at this point, she'd lost all hope of returning to her old reality.

'Maybe I should tell someone,' Adeline thought, tapping her pen against the desk, 'but I'm scared that if I do tell someone then I might change the ending of the story,' she let out a sigh. 'Winter holidays are slowly approaching. What will I do? Where will I go? Will Malia's family want her to go to France? I've never even received a letter from anyone in her family, and it's been months. Do they even care for this girl?'

"Malia~" someone called her name, getting the girl's attention. Answering to Malia felt natural to her. There were days where she would completely forgot her original name.

Blaise walked up to the girl, plopping down in the seat next to her. "You're in the library again? This was the last place I thought to check, but here you are. Why am I still surprised?"

"Blaise," Adeline spoke, letting out a sigh, "is there anything you want? If not, then leave me be. I still have unfinished homework, you know. Umbridge has given me extra, I'm sure."

"She hates you," the boy teased, chuckling, "and, yes, I am here for a reason. I'm sure you've already heard, we're planning a party at the end of the semester, to celebrate before going off for Winter break. You in?"

"A party?" she raised an eyebrow, adjusting her black hair. "I guess I could. I haven't had any fun in months, not like Snape or Umbridge would even let me."

"Ouff, is Snape still making you attend detention each week?"

"Yes," she placed her forehead on the table, visibly exhausted, "each one more difficult than the last. You know, last week he made me work down in the kitchens, helping the elves. You'd think that be the end of my humiliation, but no. Not only did I have to wash dishes, cut ingredients, wash pots bigger than that couch over there, but he also stayed."

"He did?" Blaise tilted his head.

"YES!" Adeline gestured comically, lifting her head. "He stayed and watched me slave away along side house elves for hours! I think he used me as his Saturday's entertainment!"

Blaise tried to contain his laughter, that was until they were suddenly approached by someone else, the boy's face dropping. Draco appeared, seeming a bit unsettled.

"Hope I'm not disturbing," Draco said, his eyes shooting a knowing look Blaise's way.

"Not at all, actually," Blaise answered him, getting up from his seat. "I was just about to leave. But," he quickly glanced over at who he saw as Malia, "don't forget, alright, the party. It's next Saturday in the common room, and you'll be my date."

"Date, huh?" Adeline puckered up her lips, teasing. "Well, alright. I'm sure you'd have no fun without me by your side."

"Exactly." Blaise threw her a smirk before turning on his heel and leaving. Adeline was left with Draco, someone who she had been avoiding being alone with for weeks.
