Oswald was sitting at the table with his Mom and The Yellow Rabbit who was posing as his Dad but only in his eyes. Oswald was confused why only HE could see The Yellow Rabbit and everyone else saw his Dad. "Not hungry today, Dad?" Oswald asked. The Yellow Rabbit shrugged. He dropped a piece of bacon on his pants. Oswald was wearing jeans, a white and blue striped shirt and a blue zip up shirt. He grabbed the bacon off and brushed himself off as he finished his breakfast. "Well, you don't wanna be late to work. Or to school." Mom told them. Oswald gave his mother a before school cheek-kiss. Even going into 6th grade, he couldn't escape that. He and The Yellow Rabbit got into the car. "Don't bother picking me up today, I'll catch the bus." Oswald told The Yellow Rabbit. It nodded and started driving.
Oswald's first day went on something like this: he went to class with Mrs Meecham, had to ignore a student and his lackeys calling him an ocelot, went outside for lunch but didn't eat, a firecracker was blown up by a kid and they almost had to evacuate the school, they returned inside, and finished the day. Oswald didn't ride the bus home. Instead he walked. It wasn't insanely far. He stopped when he saw a bench on a sidewalk. He took a seat and started to think as he stared at the ground. Maybe his Dad really was there and the reason why he saw The Yellow Rabbit was because he was going crazy. Maybe that whole pizzeria he saw was just a dream and the ball pit had a smell that knocked him out. "Hey." Oswald heard. He looked up and saw a girl was standing in front of him. She was wearing black pants, a purple and blue striped sweatshirt, and had purple hair. She had a notebook in her hands. "Hi." Oswald said.
"Can i sit here?" She asked as she pointed next to him.
"Sure." Oswald grabbed his bag and put it on the ground. The girl sat next to him and dropped her bag on the ground. She sat down and pulled out a pen. She opened her notebook and started writing. "What are you writing?" Oswald asked.
"Just a poem. I write a lot of them." She told him.
"What's it about?"
"It's about getting a fresh start." She said. "I kinda started to have a fresh start last Christmas. I mostly write poems about my life."
"That's interesting." Oswald said.
"What's your name?" She asked him.
"O-Oswald." Oswald tells her.
"Millicent, Millie for short." The girl told him.
"Nice to meet you." Oswald said, glumly.
"What school do you go to?" Millie asked him.
"Westbrook Middle School." Oswald said.
"Oh! I actually went there!" Millie exclaimed with a smile.
"'Went there'?"
"Yeah. I'm a high school sophomore." Millie said.
"Oh, cool. Uhh...so are you...fifteen then?" Oswald asked.
"Fourteen. I turn 15 later in the year. Before November." Millie said. "What about you?"
"I'm twelve. I have a summer birthday."
"Sweet. How was it?"
"Not too good. All my friends moved to the town over since everything around here is dying down." Oswald told her.
"Darn. Well, tell you what. If we're still in touch by the end of the year and neither of us have skipped town, I'll get ya something." Millie said. She wrote her phone number down and tore out the paper. She picked up her bag and handed it to her. "I should probably get going to my Grandpa's."
"Is he the reason you don't move? Because he's... ya know, old?" Oswald asked.
"No!" Millie chuckled. "No, he's capable of moving to other towns, don't worry! I haven't moved because...well, i made things work." Millie said. Oswald exhaled out his nose. "See ya tomorrow, Oswald!" Millie said as she walked away.
"Bye, Millie!" Oswald said to her. He got up and put his bag on. Next stop... home...He almost forgot about The Yellow Rabbit situation.
