The Aftermath

I stood there frozen for minutes. The tingling in my palm from the slap becoming less intense. I stood there, the reality of everything that happened sinking in. The gravity of it hit me like a ton of bricks. I turned around, my eyes drowning in tears as I walked to Mila's car in a hurry. I opened the car door as I collapsed into the passenger seat. Mila turned to me, her face flushed with concern.

Mila: Jazzlynn, what happened?!

I didn't answer. I couldn't. My tears dropped freely, each droplet filled with everything I've been holding in my entire life. I covered my face with my hands as I sobbed, feeling the wreck of the night storm through my body. It felt like my heart was being picked apart with a scalpel piece by piece. Mila didn't say anything else, she just put her hand on my back and comfortingly rubbed it. The car was silent, filled with unspoken words and emotion. After what felt like forever, I finally managed to pull myself together and spoke up.

Jazzlynn: Let's just go.

I muttered lowly, my voice barely a whisper. Mila nodded as she started the car. The drive back home was silent apart from the sound of the low Summer Walker playing on the radio, and my occasional sniffle. I stared out the window, the entire time replaying the argument in my head over and over. I knew I fucked up, and I know that everything he said was true, but hearing it out loud was the worst.

9:24 p.m.

Finally, Mila pulled up to my apartment building and parked the car. She turned to me, her eyes filled with concern and care.

Mila: do you want me to come up with you?

She asked softly.

Jazzlynn: No... I just need to be alone right now.

I said, shaking my head. She nodded understandingly as I exited the car.

Mila:  all right, but if you need anything at all, and I mean anything just...call me, I'll be at Nae's tonight.

I have her a weak smile as I thanked her. I walked up the stairs to my apartment, each step draining me as it felt heavier than the last one, draining the energy I already didn't have. As I got to the door, I stood outside for a bit before I took a deep breath before unlocking it. The apartment was quiet, the only sound coming from the living room television. I walked over to the living room to see my Nan sound asleep in her recliner. Gently, I draped a blanket over her before quietly heading to my room. As I passed Taser's room, I noticed he was missing. I reached for my phone to call him, but it was dead, so I put it on the charger. I sat on the edge of my bed, feeling grimy, from both the tears and the weight of everything that happened. A shower was the only thing that could wash away the feeling...or help. I stepped into the bathroom, softly closing the door behind me. The cold tile sent chills through my body as I undressed. I left the lights off to help me relax more before I turned the water on the heated temperature as I waited for it to steam up. I stepped under the steam as the water traveled down my body, attempting to relax, even if only for a moment. I began lathering up. As the water washed over me I leaned against the marble tiled wall, closing my eyes. The steam filling the bathroom, for a moment felt like it was washing away all of my problems, the argument's, Tiny's cruel words, and my guilt I failed to shake. As much as I wanted the water to wash it all away, the ache in my chest remained. Before finishing up, I went to wash my face, turning the water to cold and letting it run down my face. I squeezed PanOxyl in my palm as I rubbed my face, cleaning the tears that clung to it, and suddenly my eyes began to sting. At first I thought it was the soap, so I washed it off, but the burn only became more intense. I rinsed everything off as I used my washcloth to wipe my eyes, then I felt a rush of energy burst throughout my entire body. I opened my eyes to see the illumination of the yellow glow in my palms, but when I moved my hands from my face I saw...

Jazzlynn: Aunty Kemi?! (Tayo's mum)(if yall know her name in the show tell me so I could edit)
Kemi: Jazzlynn, listen to me, Tayo, he's the one with powers!

I didn't respond. I couldn't respond. I was in shock.

Kemi: Jazzlynn! Did you hear?! Tayo's the one with powers, you have to find him now!

Jazzlynn: What do you mean? How do you-

Before I could ask how she knew, she stepped closer and grabbed my shoulders firmly. Everything around me disappeared and all I could see was black. Soon, I found myself seeing through my aunt's eyes. I was in a cold lab that was quiet until it was filled with my Aunt's screams. People captivated in bright rooms on each side of the hall. She was being dragged down the hall by two expressionless men, as she fought endlessly, their grips tight and unrelenting. I could feel every ounce of her panic and fear as they through her in a small, claustrophobic room with all sorts of scary machines and long needles. The two men strapped her down to a table, as her brown skin grew red. She was terrified, heart racing, sweating, everything. As one of the lab workers grabbed a needle, I felt a familiar surge of energy burst through my entirebody, and a tingle in my eyes. Her powers were activated. The force of her powers sent the lab workers flying across the room as she broke out of restraints on her wrists. She bolted for the door as the lab workers scrambled to their feet

Straight, left, left, right, left, and straight.

That's how I escape. Her legs moved rapidly as she ran for her life, energy from her powers crackling around her. The alarms blared loudly as the red lights flashed around her brightly. But she didn't stop. She had to make it back home to her baby boy. As she turned the final corner, she could see the exit- the door that held all her dreams: freedom. But as she reached to open it, pain seared through her body as she dropped to the floor. Her vision blurry, she looked down to see her blood growing through her gown—they'd shot her. She tried, she tried so hard to fight and make it out of there. But she couldn't. As vulnerable as she was they still pulled her back violently, as if she was a threat. No remorse. The last thing she saw was the sky above her, growing dimmer and dimmer, until it was gone. The vision ended. I was back in my shower gasping for air. I splashed my face with cold water as it all felt like a dream—a nightmare. My whole body was trembling after experiencing the pain, fear, and trauma my dear sweet Aunt had endured.

Tayo.

A rush of sorrow washed over me.

Tayo grew up half his life thinking his mom just up and left him. He never knew this entire time she died tryingto get back to him...

But Tayo?

He's the one with powers, the one my mom was talking about. It was all making sense now...

I rushed out of the shower, barely wrapping my towel around me as I went for my phone. I unlocked it only to see a bagga texts and miscalls from everyone: Twosie, Dotz, Skreamz, Tase, Mila, NaeNae, even the twins, Kira and Kiara. My hands shook as I opened the first message from Taser:

Tiny's been shot.
