OKAY, POE WILL ADMIT THAT AVOIDING BEING PUT IN FOSTER CARE HADN'T LASTED LONG. They got him just a few days after Marlon's passing, taking Poe out of the Rosbergs' home, and bringing him to the nearest foster care facility. And now here he is, a few weeks later, in the home of his foster family just on the outskirts of Monte Carlo, just a bit over a year since his twelfth birthday, and less than a year since Marlon died.

It was okay.

That was it. Just okay.

The family is nice enough. He supposes. It's nothing like back when his parents were still in the picture. Good thing is, there's no abusive mother to ruin every single day of his life. Good thing is, there's no addict father he has to worry about and cry over every day—he does miss Marlon, though.

The couple that took him in fosters all the time, so there were a few other foster kids in the home. There was the youngest, Bellamy, a bossy two-year-old who loved the outdoors. There was four-year-old Francesca, obsessed with the color pink and having tea parties. There was seven-year-old Dominique who wanted to be a fashion designer and would play dress up with Francesca nearly every day. There were eight-year-old twins Olivia and Marco, who loved being out in the rain, mud, and snow, and all sorts of terrible weather. Then there was the oldest, Henri, a bubbly fifteen-year-old who wanted to be a professional dog trainer when he was older.

Most of Poe's time, however, was not spent hanging out with his foster siblings considering every single one of them had interests that he did not really care about. He was more interested in analytical things and would spend at most an hour just dumping whatever he could think of onto a piece of paper. It's gotten so bad that he had to be given multiple journals to keep all his thoughts organized. One of these journals had been filled entirely with an in-depth analysis of a film they all had watched just the other day. Poe's still settled on wanting to be a journalist and reporter when he's older, and clearly this proved it.

When he wasn't doing that, though, he had been going on more trips out of the country more often than he'd like. On his own accord, though, with permission from his foster parents. He enjoyed it since he got to spend more time with Nico, so at least neither boy was missing out on much from the other.

Poe may not be into karting and all that motorsport stuff as much as he should be, but he sure as hell was going to support Nico no matter what.

The first time Poe and Nico have a conversation with one of the other karters, and that conversation is not full of snarky remarks from bullies and losers, is when they're thirteen years old and in Italy for a race. The boy that starts up a conversation with them is a bit shorter than them, not by too much, and it isn't very noticeable anyway.
