Polly, a young woman in her twenties, is about to get home; but nevertheless for some reasons she is puzzled as to why the street seems simultaneously familiar and unfamiliar to her. Despite of her strange feeling about the situation, she resolves to ignore it and continue her journey.

On Polly's journey, she encounters the children who are excitedly playing a badminton sports on the street. She even tries to avoid them in order not to distract the game, but the badminton shuttle or birdie has almost hit her lovely face. The children play near a huge house, with lush green garden. There are young bystanders near the fence and watching the game. The events somewhat relieve her from confusion, for she finds herself not alone on the street that late afternoon.

As Polly continues to walk, she notices a group of female and male nursing students chatting and laughing. Polly sees an alley on the left side of the pavement while she smiles at them. The alley has stairs leading to the other side. It is a shortcut uses by everyone. Since it is well lighted, then it appears to be safe even though it is somehow narrow. However, Polly chooses not to utilize the alley because no one uses it at that very moment and the nighttime has already transpired. The alley is indeed quietly empty. She feels a bit familiar with the shortcut, but nonetheless her fright of the possibility from getting lost impedes her as she notices that there is no one present that could be asked for the correct direction. For that matter, she opts to follow the two, female, nursing students, who prefer the other stairs located in front of them, in order to lessen her unexplainable confusion regarding the street despite of her certainty relative to her familiarity with the street and way that lead to her home. Yes, she is familliar; but inexplicitly confused.

The two, female, nursing students manage to climb upstairs, without sweat. Polly, on the other hand, has trouble on stepping her right foot on the very first step of the stairs. The stairs steps are apparent to be too high for her even though her height and built are similar to the two, female, nursing students. As Polly tries her second attempt to climb upstairs, a mixed of a white and black, stray cat abruptly appears in front of her. All the surrounding circumstances hinder her to proceed.

Polly is frightened as the stray cat looks unfriendly towards her. The stray cat resolves to sit on the first step, hence blocking her way. The situation prompts Polly to deviate from her chosen way to walk on the sidewalk near the stairs. She is compelled to walk on the upward direction beside the empty and wide road. The scene is peculiar as no vehicle passes by more so it is suprisingly silent. Such situation causes her to feel uneasy, scared and confused. She feels extremely alone. "Why no one is here? It was never like this!" Polly says to herself. Polly continues walking on the eerily quiet and long pavement of the road.

Finally, a glimpse of relief is felt by Polly. She reaches the establishment where everyone enters to get to their destination. It is utilized by many people, who prefer to walk, as also a shortcut because of the enticing surroundings. There are various stores, cafeterias, fast foods, etc. inside and outside the establishment where people can meet, relax, bond, or buy something before going home. It is a lively place. The people chat, laugh, eat, etc. It never runs out of people. Its walls and doors are made of solid glass. Polly arrives simultaneously with the two, female, nursing students who used the stairs. They happily talk to each other as Polly observes them. All her confusion, fear and anxiety vanished, as she feels no longer alone. "At last.. people" she smilingly whispers.

When Polly is about to enter the establishment, the lady guard opens the glass door for her and coldly declares "Yes, you are alone." The surrounding is suddenly swallowed by darkness as 9:29 p.m. strikes simultaneously with the lady guard's declaration. Everyone vanished.. even the two, female, nursing students and the lady guard disappeared. Polly looks everywhere and what she finds is darkness.. no sign of life is present, except her.. no one is there.. she is indeed alone. Yes, everyone.. everything is swallowed by darkness. The extreme silence frightens her more. She does not know what to do. The confusion and fear that she experienced prior to reaching the establishment are doubled.. tripled.. is ten times more. Thereafter, Polly hears a whisper "You must get inside before 9:29 p.m. ends, otherwise.." She, therefore, hurriedly tries to get inside the establishment, but nonetheless a male guard from the dark abruptly appears and ceases her from entry. She is desperate to reach the glass door, but to no avail. All she can see is dark surroundings from inside and outside the establisment while being dragged by the male guard..
