The modern world hummed with technology and the constant buzz of people moving about their lives, yet there was a part of Taehyung that felt disconnected, as though he was living on the fringes of reality. The city of Seoul, with its towering skyscrapers and endless noise, had begun to feel more like a cage than the vibrant heart of South Korea. This feeling of restlessness, the sense that something was missing, gnawed at him day after day, refusing to be ignored. That's why when Namjoon suggested a weekend trip to the forest, Taehyung was the first to agree. The forest, with its promise of solitude and nature, seemed like the perfect remedy for his unrest. They were a tight-knit group of friends-Namjoon, the ever-wise leader; Jin, the one who could make anyone smile with just a word; Yoongi, quiet but always ready with a quick retort; and J-Hope, whose laughter could chase away any cloud of gloom. And then there was Taehyung, the one who, despite being surrounded by friends, often felt most alone with his thoughts.
The forest they chose was one of the few remaining untouched places near Seoul, a place where the modern world hadn't quite reached, where the trees whispered secrets older than the city itself. As they drove deeper into the wilderness, the road narrowed and the sounds of civilization faded, replaced by the rustling of leaves and the calls of distant birds. The tension Taehyung hadn't realized he was carrying began to ease, replaced by a calmness he hadn't felt in years.
After several hours of driving, they finally reached the edge of the forest. They parked the car and unloaded their gear, all eager to begin their adventure. The sun hung low in the sky, casting long shadows across the forest floor. It was a beautiful place, filled with towering trees that seemed to reach for the heavens, their branches forming a thick canopy that filtered the sunlight into a soft, golden glow.
As they walked, the group fell into a comfortable silence, each lost in their own thoughts. The trail they followed was well-worn but clearly less traveled than other hiking spots near the city. Namjoon led the way, his eyes scanning the map he had brought, while Jin and J-Hope chatted quietly behind him. Yoongi walked beside Taehyung, his usual reserved demeanor making him the perfect companion for someone who preferred to observe rather than speak.
There was something different about this forest, something almost... alive. Taehyung could feel it in the way the air seemed to hum with energy, in the way the shadows danced just out of the corner of his eye. It was as though the forest was watching them, waiting for something.
"We should set up camp soon," Namjoon finally said, breaking the silence. He glanced at the sky, where the sun was beginning its descent toward the horizon.
Jin, who had been unusually quiet, nodded in agreement. "Yeah, it's getting late. Let's find a spot."
As they started looking for a suitable place to camp, Taehyung felt his attention being drawn away from the group. A faint, flickering light caught his eye, barely visible through the thick underbrush and vines that choked the deeper parts of the forest. It was so faint that he almost dismissed it as a trick of the light, but something made him stop and look closer.
"Hey, do you guys see that?" Taehyung called out, pointing toward the light. "Over there, through the trees."
The others turned to where he was pointing, squinting through the shadows. The light was faint, almost like a distant lantern, but it was definitely there, glowing softly like a beckoning beacon.
"Should we check it out?" Yoongi asked, his voice low and filled with a mix of curiosity and caution.
J-Hope, usually the most exuberant and carefree of the group, hesitated before nodding. "I don't know, but something's telling me we should."
