A lazy knock on the door had me jolt upwards. It sounded like whoever had knocked on it couldn't care less and wanted to leave soon. I stood up from the cozy white sheets that had consumed me prior and waddled over to the direction the sound predated, trying not to trip as my legs felt restless.

I reached for the silver colored door knob handle. Its inspid colors were concealed away by the hue of silver. It's candor that the handle would*never* transpire into a true silver; nevertheless, it gleamed as if to show off and taunted my presence as I neared. It became apparent that the phoney silver was painted there to hide the rust underneath. Contemplating, I noticed that humans were no different.

The wooden rectangular door creaked slowly and behind it was the knocking perpetrator, once masked by the door until I reached one arm out, and unlatched the entrance.
Prior to the dark colored door being fully released from the hatch which had held it in place a voice had already squeezed out of the owner's mouth, as if it were a stream rushing its way into the deep ocean.

"Salutations, I have your card for this month blah, blah, take it," it uttered in the most monotone voice I've heard prior to this.

I glared outside the now open door as if I was a rabbit being hunted by a predator.

The silhouette of a man blocked any sunlight that tried to squeeze its way into my chilly, dark room. I reached out my hand yet again, similarly to when I stretched out for the gleaming door handle. The figure's hand was gently holding onto a slim card, the one card which decided everything. As if I was a frightened warrior reaching out for their sword I snatched the card from his fingers. My fingers strangled the card as it wrapped around them, like a present with a dark twist.

The color of bronze flashed for a split second, reluctantly I focused my eyes on the words the card contained.

"Aster Asher"

The name which belonged to none other than I. The card tumbled in my palm and the glittering color of the name written on it flickered and flashed, like it was a crowd of dancing fireflies illuminating in the blackened sky.

It was only until after the man had disappeared, swallowed up by the shadow which stretched out to snatch anyone who passed by, that something caught my interest.
Shining down on the card which my fingers gripped, was a glint of color. The color of fool's gold, the shining color attracted my full attention, figuratively screaming 'look at me!'.

*Huh, how? Nobody knows I exist?
This doesn't make sense,
This doesn't make sense.*
My brain failed to dig up answers, who on earth voted for me?
This world is confusing, some things even geniuses aren't able to fathom.
I rarely opened the entrance of my confined shelter, my dorm. Spending my days rotting in my personal, confined walls.
I've been quite acquainted with the rustling echos of my bedsheets, everytime I rolled over ever so slightly.
But more rare than a red river, I rolled off the comfortable bed. Strings of hair clouded my vision like sunlight covering darkness.

In the meantime I listened to the gentle sounds which emitted from the clock placed high up in my room. I couldn't seem to recall the last time I exited my confined space.
I lifted my body up from my mattress and pushed the amber-like hair back which managed to blind me seconds prior. After sitting up and leaving the light bedsheets I listened to the reverberating my footsteps created while making contact with the dense wooden floor. The door was my target, so I headed in said direction where the door lingered. The shining doorknob seemed to almost taunt me once more, but I was aware an inanimate object held no feelings other than the ones we felt towards them. Allowing my fingers to grip the exit's doorknob once more, I twisted it, allowing myself to escape my confined shelter.
After exiting my cozy room I found myself walking in a hallway, passing several identical doors to my own. After taking some steps I reached the staircase and began walking up the stone steps. I intentionally passed the staircase closer to my own dorm.
