Lounging around in the guildhall, Lucy watched as Riku was playing a game of chess with Levy, the latter who had Jet and Droy cheering her on.

"Shit," Riku cursed as he made several bad moves in a row. "Why the hell is this game so difficult? How am I supposed to remember all the moves a piece can make? Am I dumb?"

"You need to stay calm," Levy sighed. "Erza is a good teacher at teaching you how to stay calm."

"Seriously?" Riku frowned. "She's totally not."

Behind the swordsman, Erza glared at his back after hearing his words.

Lucy couldn't help but sigh at the sight. While Natsu and Gray often fought, Lucy realised that the situation between Erza and Riku was more severe.

It wasn't anything simple that sparked their conflict. It was their personalities which sparked it.

From observing Riku the last few days, Lucy realised that he was more of a relaxed individual. He does in fact listen to Makarov despite his impression, but he only listens to Makarov.

Because Fairy Tail didn't have a co-leader system, there was no one else Riku chose to listen to. They had no rights to order him around after all.

Erza, on the other hand, tried to order the others for the sake of the Guild's reputation. While that wasn't wrong, it didn't fit into Riku's perception of a Guild, so he chose to ignore the redhead.

This was the core issue between the two.

"Erza, give him a break!"

The guild master, Makarov, laughed aloud

The guild master, Makarov, laughed aloud. Erza wore a conflicted expression, before exhaling in a tired voice.

"Master. Riku is someone who ruins the reputation of Fairy Tail. You must be more severe on him. As someone who can't use magic, being accepted into Fairy Tail is already an honour."

Makarov shook his head after he heard what Erza had to say.

"Magic power isn't everything, Erza. You should know that we don't place any importance on that when accepting members into our Guild."

Erza wanted to argue, but she was interrupted when a voice boomed through the Guild, originating from the second floor.

"Old man! You should place some importance on that, else rats like that swordsman will get into our Guild!"
