Tyron and Tia had been together for almost a year now. Even though they didn't have much...Tyron knew that they had a lot.
Tia was happy with him, he had desired and wanted to be with her from the very start...but he didn't have much to offer. Both of them were struggling to be successful...Ty was a programmer, creative from birth he had made probably more than 5 apps that weren't too successful and atleast a 100 more incomplete projects.
Tia was much more talented in his eyes...her voice could even make their noisy and unhappy husband-wife next door neighbors, stop their squabbling to listen to her.
He often hid in the living room door-way of their one-bedroom apartment and listened to her play the piano, her singing made something in his heart move, he had never seen such talent. This one particular morning he woke up to her musical chimes smiling, How could he sleep when it was her voice and skill that caressed him and drew him to her.
The sound of their neighbors' usual rant drifted through the thin walls, but Tyron tuned it out, focusing on Tia's fingers dancing across the piano keys.
"You're amazing, you know that?" Tyron said sneaking behind her, his eyes shining with adoration.
Tia smiled hearing him approach, her voice blending with the music. "You're biased, but I'll take it."
Tyron chuckled. His strong hands went from her shoulders and then wrapped his arms around her waist, swaying to the melody. "I'm not biased, I'm just honest. You have a gift, Tia."
Tia's hands faltered, and she turned to face him. "You're my gift, Tyron. You make me feel seen and heard in a way no one else ever has."
Tyron's heart swelled, and he pulled her close. "I love you, Tia. I promise, I'll give you the life you deserve. We'll make it out of this place, together."
Tia's eyes sparkled, and she kissed him softly. "I love you too, Tyron. We'll get there, as long as we have each other."
As they hugged, Tyron felt a surge of determination. He would do whatever it took to give Tia the success and happiness she deserved. Little did he know, the cost of their dreams would be higher than he ever imagined.
Besides the piano they didn't have much else, unless you count their unwanted guests the rats... and leaking roof. Tyron had promised Tia a better life...but once they ran away from home and moved to the city, last winter, he found it hard to focus on his projects...while trying to make a little money to ensure they had a proper piece of brown bread with his many side hustles. Tia moonlighted waitressing while trying to show up for auditions in-between her day job of teaching 5th year preschoolers.
Success was just within their reach, Tyron could feel it, he just didn't know how much it would cost them. Maybe if he knew, he wouldn't have wanted it so bad...but then who can change destiny's descent downhill, once the choices we've made start to crumble...into heartbreaking consequences.
