~~ First question: should I change the prologue POV to first person? The rest of the book is in first person ~~
Little Rosalin looked up at her parents in confusion. "What do you mean, we're going away?"
"Not we, darling, you," her mother told her. "You're a big girl now, twelve years old, and it's not safe for you here. You're very important for the future of both of our kingdoms, Rose. "
She was a small girl, with dark brown hair and big brown eyes. Smaller than most children her age, in fact. But stronger, too. The power of two royal bloodlines ran in her veins. Pure power, pure magic.
"A portal will be made for you, my little flower. Once you go, you cannot return until the time is right." Her father wrapped his arms around her. "You'll know."
"That is enough," snapped a lady with long wavy blonde hair. "Say your goodbyes. Come, child. Where you are being sent is a Realm without magic, girl. A Realm where the Three Kingdoms do not exist. A world where the name Rosalin Cotare does not and cannot exist."
"What name shall I give my new friends?" She looked so tiny, so fragile.
"You are to use your middle name. Never again are you to be called Rosalin, never again can you mention what has passed here, and never can you tell anyone how you came to be in the Mortal Realm."
"Can–" She swallowed. "Can Myrchan come with me?"
"No. You go alone. Now." She explained what would happen if Rosalin told anyone about this. Anyone.
A shimmering floating puddle appeared in front of the girl, and she looked back at her parents.
"Goodbye, mother. Goodbye father.""Goodbye, our Rose."
The young girl stepped through the puddle and watched her world disappear as everything around her became white and empty. She'd read books about the Mirror Realm, but she'd never imagined the vast emptiness that now surrounded her, accentuated only by various mirrors in every direction. She walked straight ahead, to the only mirror she could reach.
And suddenly, twelve-year-old Rosalin Cotare was standing in a cafeteria, surrounded by other children, all in matching outfits. Students, she realised.
"I'd like to welcome our newest addition to 7th grade, Alura Smith," Announced a lady dressed in a pantsuit. Alura looked down and realised her skirt was awfully short, not even to her knees.
"You can sit with me," yelled a little blonde boy sitting at one of the closest tables. He was a little off from the other children. Alura made her way over to him and sat in the empty chair beside him. "I'm Jason."
"I'm Alura." The words were foreign to her ears and tongue, but she found herself speaking them perfectly. She knew it wasn't Aelish, but somehow she knew it.
"I like your accent. Are you from England?" He was positively beaming.
"I, yes, I'm from England."
"That's so cool! Welcome to Cadence Academy."
*** One Year Later***
"It's just a party, JJ," Alura insisted to her friend. "I wanna get to know someone here other than you."
"Whatever."
Thirty minutes later, her and a few of the other eighth graders were at a party in some sophomore's dorm. Some junior boy kept coming up to her and offering her a drink, but obviously she wasn't stupid. A while later, she was on the balcony, just looking up at the stars. There were so many more stars back in Lenors.
"Hey Alura, tired of the crowd already?"
"Oh hey, I don't think I know you," she said, looking up at a tall girl with dark skin and golden eyes.
"I'm Gabi. This is Eliza." Gabi gestured to the pretty red-haired girl standing beside her. "We saw that dude throwing himself at you and wanted to check on you."
"Thanks," she smiled. "Would you like to sit with JJ and I at breakfast tomorrow?"
"Sure," they both replied.
*****
"Hi, I'm Alex." Alura was fifteen now, almost sixteen, and a sophomore. "I'm new."
"Hey, sit down," Gabi smiled at him.
"Yeah, sit with us."
"I like your hair," he whispered to Alura as he sat beside her.
She laughed as she felt her face turn pink. Personally, she loved her newly dyed hair. "Thanks."***Senior Year***
"Alura," Eliza insisted. "We're going to be late again. And Alex isn't around to kiss up to Cartha this time."
"Thank you for the ever-present reminder that we're no longer dating," she snapped back.
"I, for one, am very glad you are no longer dating," Jason commented, flinging himself onto the horse.
"We know," the three of them replied simultaneously, three meaning Alura, Eliza, and Gabi.
"Really, JJ," Gabi said. "Take a hint."
He muttered something like "whatever" and they kicked their horses into a trot.
"Miss Smith... and company," they heard her before they saw her as they were turning the corner towards the cafeteria. "Late for curfew again, I see. Well, that'll be detention. You four will have to miss the trip tomorrow."
"But–" Eliza tried to defend them but was met with a curt reply.
"No. Go to dinner."
