Warning: mention of suicide in this chapter. It's the part where they find themselves alone, Asher and Althea, for the people who are sensitive about this subject and want to skip it.

'Every long lost dream led me to where you are

Others who broke my heart, they were like Northern stars

Pointing me on my way into your loving arms

This much I know is true

That God blessed the broken road

That led me straight to you.'

*ALTHEA'S POV*

November 10, 2016.

"Is it your boyfriend?"

The shock on Asher's face echoed perfectly the one happening inside my chest, the jump of my heart as abrupt as the fall of his grin.

Although he was was quicker to recover as Charlotte continued,

"It's for him you put your peachy lipstick?"

The cocky jock ran his tongue along his plump bottom, licking away any remains of orangey lipstick and pulling me out of my stupor at the same time.

"N-no, Asher is... a schoolmate. And Asher, this is Charlotte," I introduced, my tone sounding too formal between the narrow walls of the elementary school bathroom. Or maybe it was only because I still wasn't breathing, hanging on to the interaction between Charlotte and Asher, which surely wasn't the safest when one was wearing a curious frown and the other sporting an obvious smirk.

"Do you have a girlfriend?"

"Charlotte! You don't ask questions like this to strangers," I scolded her gently, avoiding Asher's amused gaze.

The young girl beside me didn't though, not even minding that her lifted nose barely reached half of his tall figure. "He isn't a stranger. He's your schoolmate."

"She has a point. At this point, you can't call me a stranger anymore." Asher cocked an eyebrow, as if his tongue peeking out over his upper lip weren't enough to support his argument. "And no, I don't have a girlfriend... yet."

Yet, his penetrating gaze landed in mine, so clear and assured they could have resembled a crystal ball predicting the future.

Yet those things were only meant to deceive, just like players, which was what he was, wasn't he?

He'd never looked for a girlfriend, and mostly, I'd never looked to be one. Children's fairytales didn't exist in real life, and I shook my head at the sparkle in Charlotte's eyes as she glanced between Asher and me.
