Fantasia was transferred to Malibu General Hospital by her daughter after her condition worsened without the right care at her previous hospital because of a lack of health insurance. At this point, the condition had already exhausted their savings and their loan, and her daughter Riley, being the only one under her care, took precautions to taste the waters, and took her to the best hospital In LA, maybe in America.
Fantasia couldn't help herself at this point.
She made it to Malibu Gen and waited in the trauma room with her sick mother. She had a file from the other hospital. A young female resident approached her."Hey, I'm Doctor Sky Summers. May I please see the patient's file?"
Riley handed the file. Sky looked at her. "I meant, the present one, you know, from this hospital? Do you have that?" Sky asked."no, the line is long, and my mother needs attention right away, like right now. Please!"
"Miss—"
"Riley!" Riley corrected her
"Riley. Everybody here needs to be examined immediately, and it is the hospital's rule that you go through that line and get the patient's file. I can't help you without one, infect; no one here will help you," Sky said, walking away. "Doctor, Summers, please!" Riley said running after her. "no. I am not breaking the rules for you; I'm sorry, Riley," she said and continued walking away. Riley stopped in her tracks, head hung down. Tears running down. She snuck her mother to the trauma room, and now that might have been a big fat, useless mistake. She turned to her mother...and saw a nurse examining her. "Oh no, no, no. This can't be good; I need a doctor here, please; I will go book an OR, somebody page Doctor Robertson. nurse, a little help here, and I need a file of this patient ASAP. let's roll people," the nurse shouted; it was Nurse Chase.
Riley saw them rolling her mother's wheelchair to the ER and felt relieved.
50 minutes later, they were waiting for her file or health update before taking her to the OR."You found her alone? And she can't talk? What do we do? Her condition is pretty bad; I think she has stage 4 cancer. We need to move" Dr Robertson said to Nurse Chase. "I think somebody just dumbed her there, can't we just help her? Ask questions later?" Nurse Chase asked. "No, we can't. Not without insurance and a proxy, you know the hospital rules." Another male resident said.
"Can I just call the chief?" nurse Chase said. Robertson rolled her eyes. "jeez, can you do anything without that woman?" she asked with sarcasm. "I can when shit is in my control, right now it is not, it's been almost an hour, and we can't find anyone claiming to know the patient, while standing here debating, her organs are failing, and she could die on us, at least the chief will know what to do, I'm getting the chief" She explained and rushed out.Riley walked in.
"Hi, are you lost?" Dr Robertson asked. "No, my name is Riley, and this is my mother Fantasia, she has stage 4 stomach cancer, this is her file from another hospital, where they just dumbed her and gave her 6 months to live, she needs your help, please help her, she's all I got," Riley said sniffling, Dr Robertson snatched the file and read it. "do you have a health insurance? Are you her proxy?""No, and yes, see, we already spent all the money we had; we are broke and have no insurance. If you help her, I will pay you back somehow; I could work here for free," Riley said. Robertson shook her head no. "That's not how it works baby girl. You need insurance or at least a down payment before we touch the patient; this is a private hospital, rules are tight; there is nothing I can do; if I touch her, I could lose my job. I am sorry" she said.
Riley felt hopeless, "so what am I supposed to do, give up on her?" she was now sobbing.
"I don't know, but you need to take her home. Maybe wait for a miracle, I don't know"
Riley slid her back against the wall and crashed on the floor, crying.
Nurse Chase and Taraji walked in.
