Remus
Even after a fitful night's sleep I am still ready to tear heads off. Yesterday, Tobias came to see me regarding Haven's security.
Flashback to yesterday.
"Alpha, you can't leave Haven out there alone in the woods." Tobias railed.
"What are you talking about, Tobias. I can do whatever I want."
"Of course you can, but you have put her in serious danger."
"Explain!"
"Every jealous female with aspirations of becoming Luna will jump at the chance to attack her now that she is rankless. Additionally, over half the pack males would love the opportunity to spend intimate time with Haven, for the night or longer." He reminded me of the allure of Haven and her white-hot beauty.
I roared in his face and nearly smashed the new desk that had been brought in to replace the one I just destroyed. "Issue a command for all pack members to stay away from Haven and her cabin. She is to be left utterly alone for the next two weeks. No one is permitted to go near her or the cabin for this period of time, and not even her family may provide her comfort."
"Alpha, you are aware she has no immediate family here, right?"
I prod my memory. Surely that would be something I would know about my mate, wasn't it. My stomach tightens as I realize that for as long as Haven and I have been mated, I don't know very much about her. I took her to mate, tucked her in the pack house and took my pleasure with her. I vaguely remember her mother, but don't recall her being around for some time. "Where is her family?" I dread hearing the answer.
"Her estranged father was the alpha of a now disbanded pack. He and his daughter, Haven's step-sister, live in one of the other packs. Her father has not spoken to Haven in years. I don't even think she knows her step-sister. She and her mother moved here when Haven was a child. Her mother died several months ago. You didn't bother to attend the funeral. Haven has some distant relatives in the pack, but they didn't acknowledge her until you made her Luna."
How does he know so much about my mate, while I know so little. I bet he knows her favorite color, I think sarcastically.
"Do you know anything about Haven?" Tobias accuses. "After this bull you just pulled, you better start learning if you ever want to win her back as your mate."
"How dare you speak to me so!"
Tobias drops his eyes and exposes his neck in submission, but the fire isn't out in his eyes. "I dare because I am your Beta and it is my job to be the voice of reason when you obviously have no reason left. You have made a mistake."
I roar! "I have punished my mate for her crimes against me."
"Alleged crimes against you." Tobias presses, closing his eyes as if he is waiting for the death blow to fall.
"Remove yourself from my presence before I rip your throat out and devour your corpse." At that, he slowly opens the door with a trembling hand. "And make sure my command is followed! Everyone is to leave Haven alone for the next two weeks. She is being punished!"
"Yes, Alpha." He concedes and wisely leaves my office.
End of flashback.
I have spent a very unproductive morning vacillating between doubting myself and blind fury. My desk is covered with destroyed items. Every pen I grasp to sign documents snaps between my fingers like a brittle twig. I've sent Willow home before she ends up like my latest pen.
