Wednesday.
The day before your second (and last) mock trial.
As Yanfei understood that all was prepared for the trial. She took the opportunity to acknowledge why you were here in the first place.
"Y/n, Wriothesley!" she popped her head into your office's before beckoning you out.
"I have a free hour, and I figured instead of you trying to scramble around for non-existent evidence, we could go through the essays that got you here in the first place,"
You and Wriothesley exchanged glances.
Thankfully, you had moved past Wriothesley winning first place. Maybe it was because you had matured, or maybe it was because deep down you were never really that mad to begin with.
You followed Yanfei into her office before placing yourself down in a chair that faced her desk.
You absent mindedly fiddled with the rings of your fingers as she took out two files from under her desk.
You could feel Wriothesley's eyes on you, but you chose to stay facing forwards as undesired nerves bloomed in your stomach.
With a lighthearted smile, she skim read them once more.
"You guys are a talented pair, aren't you?"
"Is that a rhetorical question or...?" Wriothesley asked.
She didn't directly answer his question, just placed her hands on the desk, and interlocked them.
"Looking back, I've really not got that much to say about them. But Y/n..."
"Yes..?"
"Slow down, girl,"
"What do you mean?"
"I can feel your stress through the paper. Relax. If you're constantly stressed and flustered, trials will be a mess. You're an incredibly talented woman, Y/n. Own it."
Your lips turned up despite your efforts to hide your smile.
"Thanks, Yanfei,"
"And Wriothesley..."
He raised a brow.
"Look after her," she hinted.
He gave a singular nod alongside that signature smirk of his.
"How have you found the experience otherwise,"
"It's been incredible truly. I've learnt so much, and I hope it'll be transferable in the future," you explained to her.
"Yeah, it's been great. I've learnt a lot and gotten close with some amazing people and been offered a once in a lifetime opportunity, "
You shifted your gaze to Wriothesley.
Now, what exactly did he mean by once in a lifetime opportunity?
Had Dougier offered him something specific?
Perhaps it was the fear of losing what you had worked hard to build up, but involuntary feelings of dread began to mentally drag you and down, and you honestly started to feel nauseous.
Why did you have a bad feeling in your stomach?
Yanfei wrapped up the meeting quickly, and you anxiously walked back to your office.
"Oh yeah, by the way, I've got news," Wriothesley informed you as you slumped in your chair.
"What's up?" you said, unscrewing the cap of a small water bottle.
"I've been offered a job literally immediately after graduation in a few months,"
"Really? That's great, Wrio,"
"Thanks. It's in Inazuma,"
Your heart sunk.
"Inazuma!?" You spluttered out.
"So that means..." You continued.
"I'd have to move there. I think that's what the dinner with Dougier on Sunday is about,"
You weren't sure whether you wanted to cry, scream, or laugh.
What about us? You wanted to cry out.
But then you remembered there was no 'us'.
You were just friends.
And if Wriothesley was moving so far away...
There was no way in hell you could be anything more.
-
After your conversation with Wriothesley, you ended up going to the bathroom, convinced you were about to be physically sick.
Your heart rate had sky rocketed, and everything was spinning.
A part of it was just the anxiety of tomorrow and then what you had found out today.
Everything was still sinking in, and it's not like he had told you every detail, so it's like you were trying to put a puzzle together with the wrong pieces.
You walked out the bathroom stall with shaky legs.
Thank god you didn't wear heels.
You splashed your face with cold water, taking a minute to appreciate the mascara that began to trickle down your face.
God, you were a mess.
Had one sentence from him really had that much of an effect from you?
You grabbed some tissue and began to dab your eyes, wiping the black stains that stuck to your skin.
Did you really like him that much?
Was it possible that you lo-
No.
To avoid getting in your own head anymore, you freshened up as much as you could before exiting the bathroom as if you hadn't just had a mental breakdown.
"You alright?" Wriothesley asked as you sat back down in the office chair.
You forced a nod out before taking an abnormally large sip of water to wash down the dry taste that seemed to unfortunately be occupying your mouth and throat.
Wriothesley raised an eyebrow out of both curiosity and concern.
"Are you sure you're okay?"
"I'm fine, Wriothesley," you assured.
"Alright, but you know I'm here for you, right?"
"Thanks," you half smiled.
"What are friends for," he reciprocated the smile before turning back to his computer.
-
You actually ended up asking Yanfei if you could leave an hour early, and fortunately, she saw no issue with it.
You didn't tell her the real reason, of course, just convinced her you weren't feeling too great and had completed all tasks assigned.
Which wasn't entirely untrue.
And when Wriothesley asked why, you simply told what you had told Yanfei.
"Want me to ask Wanmin Restaurant for some Miso soup?"
You half chuckled. "Maybe, I'll see how I'm feeling,"
"Well, alright. Call me if you need anything,"
"Will do," you stated before grabbing your things and walking out the door.

a/n: Things were going too well. I had to spice up the plot a bit 😈
