The atmosphere in the hotel room grew awkwardly silent by the time Wriothesley had gotten home.
He brought back Miso Soup, but you were so nauseous, you could barely even look at it.
"Y/n?" he called out to you at one point.
You glanced up from your phone.
"Is this about the trial? Is that what has gotten you so worked up?"
"Yeah, I guess,"
Which wasn't entirely untrue, but that certainly wasn't the main thing eating away at you.
He sat down on the bed next to you just before you placed your phone down to the side.
His attempts to distract you were somewhat comforting, but you really had to force a laugh out every time he made a joke.
"Feeling better?" he asked just 15 minutes after talking with you.
You faked a smile and nodded.
How could you possibly tell him that him moving to Inazuma to go pursue his lifelong dream would be the most gut-wrenching, soul crushing thing in existence?
You felt guilty.
He'd always talked about what he wanted to do after university, and now it was within his reach.
You let your head rest against the headboard and closed your eyes before letting a breath escape your lips.
-
As you contemplated calling Navia to vent, Wriothesley popped in the shower.
Your finger hovered over her contact but you really didn't want to bother her, yet you were feeling worse by the minute.
But you decided not to eventually.
And just power through it.
Because that's always what you did.
-
Eventually you managed to fall asleep, but was cursed with lots of tossing and turning.
Wriothesley woke up twice to make sure you were okay. However each time, you ensured him you were and made him go back to sleep.
-
The next morning was rough, but you had a trial to get through and people to impress.
So, with a heavy heart, you forced yourself into one of your best outfits and made sure you looked presentable.
"Ready?" Wriothesley gave you a soft pat on the back.
"Yep," you affirmed before leaving the hotel room and starting the familiar journey to the law firm.
-
"Your honour, member's of the jury, my name is Y/n L/n, and I will be representing the prosecution in this case,"
Wriothesley stood like a statue next to you which wasn't unusual in this space.
You continued to give a brief synopsis of the case, but as everyone eyeballed you from the sidelines the familiar performance anxiety slowly started to crawl up your throat, and you almost froze.
But Wriothesley managed to save you, and took over from you for a bit which gave you a chance to recompose yourself.
You managed to take over from him again, explaining your evidence and what it showed.
Business law was never extremely difficult, but there were always lots of numbers. And in a case like this, where the main title was the 'Private sale of an automobile' you felt like you were repeating yourself a lot.
Eventually, the court ended, and the judge made his closing statement, which resulted in a round of applause from the jury and Yanfei herself.
You and Wriothesley gave eachother a quick hug before going over to meet Yanfei.
"Great job you guys! That was incredible to watch,"
"Thanks Yanfei," you smiled and Wriothesley did the same.
Everyone eventually left, and the only person that was left was the judge.
Yanfei informed you about the 'after work drinks' that were taking place just opposite the court room and of course you and Wriothesley were both invited.
"You coming?" Wriothesley asked as you both approached the door.
"Actually can I meet you there? I'm gonna go back and have a quick word with the judge,"
"Sure," he asked before leaving you to your thoughts.
The entire place was dead silent as you began to walk back in the direction the court room was in.
But just as you turned a corner, a harsh set of words struck you in the ear.
"You know I genuinely don't understand why you're even here in the first place,"
You paused, turning round slowly, only to be met with someone who's name had recently become very familiar.
"Excuse me?"
"Stuttering like an idiot every other sentence? You sounded like you could barely string a sentence together Y/n. It was humiliating just watching you,"
"What are you talking about Dougier?"
He took a few steps forward resulting in him being uncomfortably close.
His hand caressed your shoulder before travelling down your back, causing a lump to form in your throat
"Pretty women like you are only good for one thing you know. Do you really think you have any chance of making it? And that Wriothesley seriously has any interest in you whatsoever?"
"Me and Wriothesley's relationship is none of your business ," you snapped.
"Do you really think he'll give up the job of his dreams for some bitch he's been eye fucking for 2 weeks? Be realistic Y/n, once that man leaves for Inazuma, I doubt you'll even cross his mind."
Your eyes widened and you froze on the spot but the strong grip on your upper arm woke you up again.
"Please stop you're hurting me," you managed to get out, on the verge of tears.
"What are you actually going to do Y/n? If you tell him about our little conversation, i'll make sure he looses this future job of his and you couldn't do that to him could you?"
You almost collapsed right there and then.
He was right.
There was absolutely no way you'd be able to let Wriothesley loose the thing he's been working towards and dreaming about for years.
"I'll leave you too for it now. But remember to keep this between us, yeah?"
And with that, he disappeared leaving you in the hallway, alone.
