^^Taylos^^
CHAPTER FIVE
The guardian, Taylos, speed walks over to a beckoning Sloane; she whispers something in his ear which makes me wish I was a fly on the wall to listen in. He nods twice and speed walks back off the panel and to the entrance. Her steely blue eyes land straight on me with a second too long of a gaze. Concern has taken over her face for such a small amount of time that I can't tell if I was imagining it. Was she talking to Taylos about me just now? Everyone has moved on from me and onto the next student, but I sit here in my assigned seat with confusion and anxiety boiling up in my chest. Necromancy?! What will my mom and dad say when they hear this?
As I sit and watch the rest of the trials, I feel the hairs on my neck begin to stick straight up, giving me a chill that runs up my spine. The room feels electrically charged, but no one else seems to notice what I'm feeling. My hearing becomes muffled, a high-pitched ringing starts, my vision has rings around it, disorienting me, then I hear a distant voice in my head, "Finally a female born descendant."Everything goes back to normal. Elder Roy is talking into the mic and has not been phased by what I just experienced which means I was the only one.
Taylos enters the Arena again with another guardian following suit. He has messy jet-black hair, a perfectly square jaw, pale skin, and his presence commands the entire room. I can see him scanning for something when his eyes narrow in on me, still walking behind Taylos. My eyes don't look away from his even through the weirdness of his stare. His handsomeness is unmatched, so I can't look away. "Ah, you have found him." That distant voice from earlier seems much closer to my ears now, but again no one else seems to notice it. What the hell do I keep hearing? Am I losing my mind after the trials? Being part of the Necromancer's maybe is going to drive me to be crazy ...
The two guardians reach the floating panel and are standing on either side of the Elders. I look at Sloane, and she quickly looks away as if she was looking at me without my notice. The black-haired guardian continues to talk to her as the trials come to a finish. Elder Roy asks students to meet their House Elders outside the Arena. Cliques of students group together to find their Elder; many are excited and anticipating success, some are showing obvious shame and disappointment, and then there's me walking alone to find Elder Sloane.
Others in my House circle around Sloane, some asking her questions about the Necromancy abilities and classes. I walk up to join and show I'm a team player when Sloane walks my way to meet me, "Miss Adelaide. Welcome to the Necromancer's House, we are looking forward to having you learn with us." Her steely eyes are hard to look away from. She turns and talk loudly to the group, "The House of Necromancer's is located at the center of campus. You should all be honored to be part of this incredible opportunity as many call us the House of Death, we are truly the House of Life as death brings life to the world. So, if someone ever gives you grief, you will retort my words to them, we work with the power of life as Necromancers." Sloane gives an appealing speech about our house and it's believable.
