Chapter Three

∘⋆⋅✯⋅⋆∘

Home of the Huskies- UConn Gampel Pavillion
8.55pm

"Paige over here!"

"Paige! A word please!"

"Paige, are the rumours about you having a girlfriend true?"

"Maybe if you all took a step back, I'd be able to see." Paige held up a hand to block the flashes of the cameras in her direction. The Huskies had just had their first match of 2024, an exhibition game against Gonzaga. It was 'technically' Paige's first public appearance in over a month and the reporters were going crazy. When the flashes of the cameras didn't stop, Paige stood up, excused herself then left. KK quickly took her space to try distract the reporters from the fact their star player had just rushed out of the interview.

"Paice, what was that?" Winter called as Paige stormed into the lounge. "Why'd you leave?"

"Too many questions." Paige huffed, grabbing a bottle of sparkling water from the mini-fridge in the corner of the room and lying down on the couch.

"Could you at least try to at be a little bit more... pleasant to the fans next time? Your public image matters a lot more than ever right now during your first few public appearances. Especially with March Madness fast approaching."

"I couldn't care less about my public image, Winter."

"It's good you're getting all this out now, because there's no way in hell that you're acting like this in front of fans." Winter groaned into his notebook before turning to look at the blonde basketball player who was sprawled out on the couch.

"I don't plan on it."

"And maybe don't storm off next time so KK doesn't have to take the lead." Winter added in defeat.

"KK's having the time of her life." Paige protested, looking out through the window in the door to where KK was showing off her muscles to the reporters.

"You know what I mean Paige. People are coming to see you. And these next few months are going to be big for you and the team. You've already broken protocol by running around Connecticut by yourself. So I advise you to remain professional and wipe that pissed look off your face." Winter crossed his arms disapprovingly, Paige started to feel a bit bad. She hadn't meant to get an attitude but she had been flooded with unwanted questions ever since the incident back in December and it was driving her mad. Everywhere she looked it was 'Paige Bueckers- Good girl gone bad?' or 'Paige Bueckers- A fallen hero?' she was sick and tired of reporters twisting stories to fit their own narratives about her.
