Over the next several months, Booth found out a lot of things and it didn’t exactly please him.

Jacob Brodsky a former army ranger sniper, who had served with Booth, had killed Heather Taffort and two other people. Booth also knew that Jake was after him.

He made sure that Brennan was busy at work, he didn’t want her to worry. She was working on a project with her favourite intern Vincent. That was until there next murder victim turned up another army ranger who Booth served with so it didn’t surprise him when the clues started to add up to Brodsky being the murderer.  I was on the platform with Brennan and Vincent while everyone else went to lunch.

“Booth, I think you need to be careful, he is clearly after you and I don’t want you to end up like this.” Brennan said.

“Relax Babe I’ll be careful.” Booth said kissing her lips softly. He truly wished she wouldn’t worry about him, he didn’t want the added stress for her.

His phone rung, it was Brodsky, Booth gave the phone to Vincent told him to answer on the 5th ring so he can get a trace.

Vincent picked it up and it all happened in a matter of seconds. The glass above made a piercing smash, Booth pushed Vincent and Brennan to the ground.

“You okay?” Booth asked the two squints. Brennan nodded. Vincent however was struggling to breathe and that’s when they noticed the blood soaking through his lab coat.

“Vincent” Brennan cried.

“Buddy stay with us okay, you can’t close your eyes.”

Vincent nodded while Booth applied pressure, Brennan had tears streaming down her face as she told Vincent how much she loved him and his facts and that he was her favourite and he was such a good worker.

Vincent struggled with his breathing, until he shut his eyes and that really was it, he was gone.

Booth didn’t want to believe that they had just lost one of their own, Brennan was crying into Booth’s chest now.

Booth couldn’t get the thought out of his head that the bullet was meant for him, he was the one that was meant to be lying on the ground.

The whole team gathered in Brennan’s office less than an hour after the incident. Booth was sitting on the couch holding a now peacefully sleeping Brennan.

He could have given the phone to her, she might not have been here right now and that made his focus on protecting her. His finger gently swept away her hair that was over her beautiful face.

“It was Brodsky wasn’t it?” Hodgins said.

Booth nodded.

“Are you okay Booth you seem unusually quiet.”

“I gave him the phone, I could’ve given it to Bren, I could’ve answered it myself, no matter who I gave it too one of us wouldn’t be here.”

“Agent Booth you didn’t know, you can’t blame yourself.”

“I don’t Sweets, I blame him. Look losing a friend I’m used to it, so why don’t we all just go home tonight get some rest then catch the bastard after that we can take a couple of days off to grieve.”

They all just nodded and exited Brennan’s office quietly,  Booth quietly carried Brennan to the car and headed home.

~The Next Day~

It was late afternoon when Brennan got the call to say that Booth had caught Brodsky and he was okay.
