Tom is awoken by whirring metal assaulting their ears. They shoot up from the couch, bobbing about as it's carried by two large people in hardhats. Panicked, they try to leave the furniture, only to fall face first on the ground. Edd is standing not far away, observing the construction, so they dust off to meet him with a dour expression.
"Edd! You couldn't tell the builders to wait until after I woke up??" They complain, wiping a smudge of dirt off their cheek with their hooded fuzzy frog blanket.
"You'd be annoyed if I woke you up, too. At least it'll be faster if they start now." Edd is still looking at the construction as he talks, as if it'd speed up with his supervision. Tom finds frustration to his carelessness to their plight and grumbles incoherently, blanket dragging on the dirt as they slog away. Edd sighs to himself, not noticing their leave as he goes back to pacing. "Even still it might take a whi-" Edd starts with dejection, just to be halted by a construction worker standing in his way.
"We're done."
"Oh wow!" He turns. Sure enough, in front of him stands a house much like their old one, except a bit smaller. Same tan-ish walls and red roof, same two windows on either side of the door, even. Edd and Tom walk inside awing at the structure, Edd's smile contrasting Tom's uncertain frown. Matt comes in behind them, with slouched posture and bags under his eyes, his sleep in the car clearly less than favourable.
"Finally! Ugh.." He stretches his pained back, then jumps up bright-eyed. "I call the-!"
"That's my room, that's yours, and Matt's can be next to the bathroom," Edd states over Matt, to Tom. Matt's shock and confusion is ignored in favour of Edd's, as he notices something off about the hallway. He takes a leaving worker by the arm. "Wait- why are there only three rooms??"
The worker raises a brow, speaking over the sandwich he's chewing in his mouth, "because there's only three of you..?"
"B-but..." Edd turns anxiously back to the rooms, staring long enough to notice as Matt and Tom turn to him with confusion and frustration setting in. He lets go of the tired worker and attempts to hide his nerves with a smile. "Sure! Sounds great!" Though, as the worker leaves, he mumbles his complaints, "Just don't follow the blueprints I gave you, huh?" He snarks, annoyed expression on his face as he slumps, but his thoughts are soon interrupted by a splitting headache. He groans, holding his head. "Oow!"
"Edd?" The noise catches Tom's attention, they go toward him and only now are they close enough behind him to see a giant gash in his head. Matt also notices, jittering a bit at the sight before turning away.
"Oohh.. Yikes..." Matt concerns, fiddling with his sleeves. Edd turns around, unaware of the damage.
"What?" He tries to feel the area, only then touching the open wound. "OW! Why didn't you tell me I had a bloody split in my head!?" Tom and Matt aren't sure who he's directing the question at as he's turned away from both of them, but Tom takes it on themself to wrap an arm around him in spite of his anger.
"We'll take you to a doctor!" They assure, though Edd looks less than happy.
"What?? Nono, I-" But before he can much protest, he's sitting on the blue bed of a doctor's office, having the skin poked on harshly.
"Does it hurt? Does it hurt? Does it hurt?" The doctor asks continuously and childishly while jutting her pen into the area. Edd grabs her wrist.
"Yes. Very much." He answers, holding back an urge to snap it.
"Good." She calmly pulls her hand out of the grip and jots something in her clipboard. Edd grimaces as the appointment disappointingly continues.
In the waiting room, after more time has passed, Tom's foot jitters on the ground. They glance up at the doors, then at Matt, who's staring at his hoodie strings and making the aglets kiss. Finally, Edd is brought out to them in a stroller.
