It was actually quiet and Heeseung found himself checking several times to make sure that his two kids were still breathing and hadn't begun choking each other yet.
"Why do you keep looking in the mirror?" Hye-Jin looked up from her tablet after noticing Heeseung's worried glances for the hundredth time.
"Are you two okay back there?" Heeseung wondered, trying not to be anxious but failing.
"Yeah, we're okay. Why?" Ha-Neul nodded, looking a little too guilty for Heeseung's liking. Seok-Hoon lowered his phone.
"Because your being too quiet, that's why. Make some noise" He turned around in his seat enough to see Hye-Jin.
"So, when we're not quiet, you get upset? But when we are, you also get upset?" Hye-jin crossed her arms. Heeseung smiled a little at that.
"She's got a point" Seok-Hoon added, turning back to face the front of the car and pulling his phone back out.
"Can you put that away for two seconds?" Heeseung glanced over at him. Seok-Hoon put his phone down and dramatically turned his head to face his dad. Heeseung would blame that on his oldest spending too much time with Ni-Ki and Sunoo as a kid.
"One. Two" Seok-Hoon counted, picked his phone back up again and went back to what he was doing without a second thought. Yeah, definitely got that from Ni-Ki.
"Fine, just don't have it out when we get to the park. Your uncles want to see you, not the back of your phone" Heeseung gave in, having learned to pick his battles when it came to his oldest. Seok-Hoon had actually been an easy kid, up until he started middle school. And then he was a not so easy kid and then it was like Heeseung was dealing with the terrible two stage all over again.
"Why do I have to entertain them? The whole reason we're doing this family reunion is because you haven't seen your 'buddies' in a long time and so that the little kids can run around and annoy everyone else with their screaming? I don't even know why I came along" Seok-Hoon argued.
"You came along because your part of the family" Heeseung repeated. This was a common argument between the two of them. Seok-Hoon didn't like going out with his dad or siblings and Heeseung always had to drag him along because he didn't trust Seok-Hoon to stay home alone.
"Whatever" Seok-Hoon scoffed. Heeseung gripped the wheel tightly.
"Watch it, Seok-Hoon" Heeseung glanced over at his kid again.
"Maybe you should watch the road, grandpa" Seok-Hoon snapped back. Ha-Neul and Hye-Jin had enough sense to stay quiet, going back to playing games with each other and listening to their brother and dad arguing.
"I don't like your attitude very much right now, young man" Heeseung warned. He saw out of the corner of his eye, Seok-Hoon mimicking him and rolling his eyes.
"Well, I don't like being dragged to family reunions for people that aren't even related to each other!" Seok-Hoon responded, glaring at Heeseung.
"We're not related to samchons!?" Hye-Jin finally tuned into the conversation.
"Duh, I thought you knew that!" Seok-Hoon scoffed. Hye-Jin slouched down in her chair and kicked the back of his seat.
"Hey! What was that for?" Seok-Hoon turned around, smacking her leg.
"You're being a di-" Hye-Jin stuck her tongue out.
"Do not finish that sentence, young lady" Heeseung cut her off. He really needed to have a talk with his oldest about teaching the younger two bad words.
"Well tell Seok-oppa to stop being mean!" Hye-Jin retorted, sulking.
"It's not my fault you're such a little baby!" Seok-Hoon argued, reaching another hand back to bother his sister. Hye-Jin curled up away from him. Heeseung noticed and grabbed Seok-Hoon's hand quickly and smacked it.
