Logan scored the final touchdown, winning the game for his team and looked to the stands. He paid no mind to his teammates celebrating around him or the crowd cheering for him. He only had eyes for one person and he found them immediately. With his position on the field and all the fans obscuring his view he could only catch little details but they were enough. Dark brown hair pulled up into a messy bun, oversized leather jacket he'd bought as a gift last Christmas, and a wide smile. The object of his affection. Riley.
"Logan!" Sage shouted from beside him, ripping him from the ghosts of his past.
"What," he asked, turning to find Sage sweaty and alone. In his daze, he missed that the team had filed inside.
"I've been calling you for 2 minutes. Practice is over."
"Oh right," he said, his feet moving him to the doors more out of habit than anything.
"It's not like you actually showed up," Sage commented from beside him, turning back when he noticed Logan had stopped.
"What does that mean," Logan asked with narrowed eyes. Sly remarks are what he expected of Sage. It was one of the reasons why they got along so well but recently they had taken on a different tone.
"It means that was shit," he replied blunt as ever. "What's wrong with you?"
"Noth-"
"No bullshit Logan. I've been letting it go but I'm starting to get worried. What's wrong? You've been weird for weeks," Logan sighed, noting the furrowed brow on Sage that had been making a regular appearance as of late. He'd feel bad for putting it there if he wasn't already too busy feeling bad for himself.
"I'm fine. Just drop it," he said, patting his best friend's shoulder before pushing past him to the locker room.

The kid in front of him took the last milk. The same kid saw that Logan wanted it and gave it to him. Who would have thought that that interaction would lead them here? The grass their blanket is laid out on is still wet from the storm. The stars they came to gaze upon have been forgotten. Riley is staring at him with all the wonder in the world waiting for his answer.
"Do you want to go on a date?" Sure he'd asked out his fair share of people and been asked out but never by a boy. Does he like boys? Could he like boys? He never has before, has he? Does it matter? Riley is Riley. There's really no other answer but
"Yes."
"There you are. Are you coming," Sage asked, tapping on Logan's shoulder. He was stopped in front of the cafeteria doors and didn't remember walking this way. He scolded himself for not having it more together by now.
"Yeah I'm coming," he said beginning his trudge to the parking lot. As he walked to his car, he noticed Sage was still right beside him. "Sage, I don't need a babysitter," Logan said when Sage didn't turn left to continue his walk home.
"I'm your best friend and something is going on. I'm not leaving until you tell me."
"You're going to be waiting a long time."
"I have time. We have a long weekend," Sage smiled.
"What are you doing," Logan asked as his best friend's hand unexpectedly reached into his pocket and began fishing around for his keys. He was much too shocked to push Sage away.
"I'm driving," Sage said, shedding his backpack and placing it in the backseat. When he grabbed the handle for the driver's side a hand shot out to hold the door closed. He turned to Logan who had a brow quirked.
