After the Deathcrush LP released drummer Manheim left the band, with Jan Axel Blomberg replacing him. Jan choosing the stage name Hellhammer. Maniac left the band aswell. After Maniac left, Mayhems second singer would join, Per Yngve Ohlin. At the time of Per (also known as Pelle at the time) trying to join Mayhem, he had just left another band of his, a Swedish death metal band known as Morbid. Pelle was the founder of Morbid before leaving and joining Mayhem. Pelles package to the band asking to join included a demo tape from his band, A crucified rat, and a letter. Signed on the outside saying it came from the name "Dead" which was Pelles stage name in Morbid. Dead joined Mayhem in 1988. Dead lived in Sweden at the time and moved to Norway to join the band.
