"I'm Crown. Is Shar here?" I asked, scanning the living room."What do you want with our mother?" Juan shot back, eyeing me warily. I was surprised I still remembered their faces.
"I'm her friend. Is she home?" I replied, trying to keep my tone calm.
"Nah, she's not here. Why do you have a gun?" he asked, glancing at my holster.
"Because I'm with the FBI," I said, trying to sound authoritative.
"Let's see your badge." Juan crossed his arms.
I pulled out my badge and handed it over. One of them inspected it closely, making sure it was real.
"Alright, come in. She should be home in five minutes," Juan said, stepping aside to let me in.
I walked into the living room, taking in the familiar yet distant surroundings. "I'm Juan, and this is Jaquan," he introduced.
"I know who you are. You've both grown up," I said, a smile tugging at my lips. "Jaquan, I guess you're still causing trouble?"
"Nah, I'm the good one. Juan's the one who gives all the trouble." Jaquan shot back, and Juan playfully hit him.
"Shut up—I mean, shut up," Juan said, rolling his eyes just as I heard the sound of heels approaching.
"Jaquan, Juan," Shar's voice cut through the air as she entered, her gaze locking onto me.
"Why are you in my fucking house", Shar said angrily.
"Ma", the twins shouted.
"Sorry Crown kitchen now", she walked away.
"You in trouble my friend", Jaquan touched my shoulder walking away I walked into the kitchen.
"What you doing in my house", she looked to see if the twins were there.
"I came to explain to you what happened".
"Like why you break in my house", she snapped.
"Hey chill out", I tried to touch her she stepped back.
"I didn't break in your house you left the door open so I looked around I felt some kind of way that's why I stayed outside and waited on you".
"That's bullshit".
"Really? Because when I pulled up, your neighbor was walking toward your house. He ran off when he saw my car. You don't wonder why he doesn't live here anymore?" She leaned against the kitchen counter, her expression shifting as she considered my words.
"Then why didn't you tell me?" I stepped closer, placing my hands on the counter, trapping her gently.
"You didn't give me a chance; you just assumed the worst of me," I said, locking eyes with her.
"I'm sorry. Forgive me?" she replied, a smile breaking through her tension.
I chuckled softly. "Only if you give me a kiss."
She shook her head, but I gently held her chin, leaning in and kissing her passionately. To my surprise, she kissed back, deepening the moment. Just as I was lost in her warmth, my phone rang, pulling me back to reality.
"What?" I said, glancing at her. She was blushing, her cheeks rosy and her deep dimples captivating.
"Damn bro you forgot about the bachelor party for Tyler", shit.
"I'm on my way", I hang up.looking at her.
"I have to go, don't think this the last time I'm seeing you", I peck her lips then hugged her.
