Chapter 27
Three weeks later...
"Three weeks! Three weeks, Rose, and he has not returned yet." I said, panic overwhelming me.
"Come on Amber. I am sure he has a very valid reason for not coming back." She said in soft tones, as if she herself was not affected by this.
Three weeks and nothing. His own sibling and right hand man were not even bothering themselves to look for him. It concerns me that he didn't even call, text or anything. Not even a hand written note.
And I can't just go to the police and file a missing persons report.
I would have to get more creative in finding....
My thoughts were cut short by the sound of the door closing. I looked up to see Hunter with his usual black suit on as if he went to do his business.
A more serious expression plastered on his face.
He walked up the stairs as if he hadn't disappeared at all. Just walked upstairs and closed the door, didn't even say hi, didn't even bother to explain why he left, didn't even bother to explain why he didn't come back for so long.
I looked at Rose and she just shrugged her shoulders, stood up and walked away. "It's his habit Amber, don't mind it. Give it some time."
Give it time.
I won't be able to 'give it time'. The more I 'give it time' is the more paranoid I would be.
Why was he acting so strange?
What made come home only days later?
What was he hiding that I didn't know of?
My leg wouldn't stop shacking and I just couldn't stop fidgeting with my hands. What happened to him these past few days.
"And Amber," I looked up to see Rose standing at the bottom of the stairs, "I think it might be best if you sleep in your room for the night." And with that she walked upstairs and I heard the door to her room close.
I just can't seem to wrap my mind around his behavior. I would want to ask but I don't want to wake a wolf at rest.
Unless...
I got up front the sofa and walked upstairs towards his room.
If I don't want to wake the wolf at rest then I'll have to take the bull by the horns.
I knocked on the door and waited until he opened it. It was open by a crack and I could see the coldness within his eyes. It sent chills down my spine. They only slightly softened when his eyes landed on me. Yet the way they just seemed lifeless. Dead. Soulless. Empty. As if his soul died and all that was left was just a walking breathing corps.
My body felt tempted to walk or run away from the aura he emitted, but my mind was determined to find out what his issue was.
The softness they held disappeared and I could feel the daggers he threw. Piercing. Sharp.
He opened the the and grabbed my wrist, yanking me into his room and pinning me to the wall and closed the door. He looked me deep into my eyes, arching a brow as if asking me to explain myself.
I stuttered in the process, "I- I just wanted to know why you were gone for so long."
"Business."
"What kind of business?"
