Max walks downstairs, looking around as she doesn't see anyone in the kitchen. "Mom?!" she calls out. "Mommmm!" she calls out again. As Max walks closer to her mom's bedroom, she hears faint giggles, behind the door. Max takes a deep breath before knocking. She knocks, no answer. She knocks again, no answer. Annoyed, she knocks a third time before the door swings open, revealing her stepfather.
"Yes Maxine?" He asks clearly annoyed. "Where's my mom" Max tries to look behind him but he blocks her. "She's busy" a faint smiles appears on his face. "She said she would take me to school" Max crosses her arms.
"Looks like you'll have to walk today"
"No way!"
Majorie strides out the bathroom, going to sit on the bed. "Is that my beautiful daughter?" She asked, looking over at the door. Hunter rolls his eyes slightly and replies "yes". "Well let her in" She gives him a stern look. Hunter obliged, standing out of the doorway, letting Max in. "Ah yes, my gorgeous daughter" Marjorie stands up, going over to Max to kiss her forehead. Max rolls her eyes. "Mom you said you would take me to school" Max crosses her arms again.
Marjorie looks over at the clock that sits on the nightstand. "I said that?" Marjorie asks confused. "Yes mom, last night" Max said, as she lightly tabs her foot. "Okay I suppose I will take you" Marjorie sighs. "But what about, you know..." Hunter interrupts. "That can wait I have to take my daughter to school" Marjorie goes to grab her purse. "Why can't she walk" He points to the door. "My daughter will not be walking 10 miles to get to school, come on Maxine" Marjorie walks out the door.
Max smirks a little, while following behind her. They both walk out and walk up to the car, both getting inside. Marjorie pulls off, beginning to drive to the school. Max lays her head on the window, looking out the window as they pass some fields. "Are you okay darling?" Marjorie looks over. "I'm fine mom" Max continues to look out the window. "Maxine I know that you're still upset about the divorce and everything, you know you can always talk to me" Marjorie rubs her back, looking over for a second then back on the road.
"Okay mom" Max replied simply. Marjorie soon pulls up to the parking lot, parking in front of the school. "Have a good day Maxine" Marjorie blows a kiss as Max grabs her bag and gets out the car. She goes inside, seeing some cheerleaders and basketball players by the locker. She walks over to hers, putting the combination in, and swinging it open. She grabs out a few books before shutting the locker. She accidentally drops her bag, causing her books to fall.
"Shit" she mumbled to herself as she got down to pick them up. Jane walks over to Max, crouching down to help her pick them up. "Here you go" she smiles. "Oh um, thanks" Max politely smiles. "It's no problem" Jane smiles wider.
"I'm Jane"
"Max"
"I know, I sit behind you in chemistry"Max smiles and does a quick nod. Mike then walks over to them, seeing them talking. "Babe you ready?" Mike asks chewing his gum. "Oh yeah" Jane adjusts her bag. "I'll see you around" Jane waves as she walks off with Mike. Max smiles, going to put her books in the bag and going to first period. She walks in algebra, going to the very back of the class. She sits down and begins to set up her desk as the bell rings. The teacher then stands up from her desk. "Alright class, today we'll be reviewing the quadratic equation" Mrs Kasey begins to writes on the board.
Max just zoned out, looking out the window. She mindless writes down the notes, looking over at the clock before the bell rings. She puts her things in her bag, going to walk out before Mrs Kasey stops her. "Maxine, can I speak to you for a moment" Max steps back "sureee" she turns around to face her. "I've been looking over your work and it looks like you have the highest grade in the entire class" Max slowly nods. "Oh that's cool I guess" Max shrugs
