Nancy sauntered along the corridor, passing by the masses of students gathering outside. She softly hummed to herself as she made her way into the establishment, wondering about her upcoming test with Kaminsky. An unfamiliar uneasiness settled over her, one she couldn't put her finger on. Even if she had been studying fervently, pouring over textbooks and writing notes till her hand ached she wasn't as focused as before, due to an unexpected event.

Her lips were slowly curling upwards, taunting a smile at the thought of last night. She had spent the majority of her night giggling and denying Barbara's claims regarding her relationship with Steve Harrington. For someone who usually wasn't attached to her telephone at the hip, she couldn't part from it. She laid there with the phone pressed against her ear, the chord coiling around her finger like a snake. Just because Harrington had mentioned that he might call her that night. Then, her conversation was interrupted by Mike's friend offering her a slice of pizza. She wouldn't have been against it, but they had caused such mayhem downstairs that she just wasn't in the mood.

Either way, Nancy felt the need to ground herself. She still couldn't come to terms with the fact that Steve was actively pursuing her. All because she didn't resemble his usual type, and Tommy and Carol kept highlighting that. She felt tempted to return their nastiness, but Steve insisted on ignoring them. Like he usually did with most things.

Then suddenly, Barbara appeared at her side with a bright smile. It amused her how interested she was in her current affair with Harrington, even though she didn't want it to go public due to his well-known reputation. She didn't like people's eyes on her, unlike him who flourished in the attention.

"So, did he call?", she asked while radiating with excitement

"Keep your voice down!"

"Well, did he?"

Nancy couldn't help but turn to look at her friend, knowing the truth. She kept trying to convince Barbara that it wasn't as serious, even if her gut spoke otherwise. It felt like she didn't want to fully accept she was into Harrington to have some kind of control over their dynamic. Even though she dreamt of the day a guy like him would be interested in her and he had certainly made her feel as if she was floating. Maybe it was her knowledge of his previous girlfriends or all the rumors about the girls he slept with. But she couldn't bring herself to look into it enough to fully grasp what she might be getting herself into.

"I told you, it's not like that", at least that's what a part of her wanted to believe. Then she paused, looking briefly at her friend's face telling her clearly that she wasn't going to accept that. "Okay, I mean, yes, he likes me, but not like that.."

As she turned towards her locker, a smile slipped onto her lips at the thought of him. She was a lost cause, Barbara knew it, she knew it. "We just.. made out a couple times", was all she could utter while unlocking her locker. That's what casual was supposedly like, only kissing and nothing else. Except, they were past that stage of just kissing and acting like animals who didn't know how to properly communicate.
