GRACE'S POV

Part of me was afraid to even admit what I had just said. I had little to no clue what Sam would do if she figured out I knew a lot more than she thought.

"What do you mean you're starting to remember?" Loki raised a brow like I was going crazy.

"I know it's weird but...it's like if I tried really hard I can remember a lot about myself. I don't know what caused it." I tried to explain.

I wasn't lying either, suddenly I could remember parts of me I never knew. A while ago I learned some crucial parts about myself in the library. Now I can feel like those things are real, but they're missing important context.

In the writing, I mentioned a lot about wanting to hurt myself, and it seemed to bring back that trauma. Even though I can't entirely remember the reason why I was depressed, the books had the power to restore my depression.

But now...it feels a lot more familiar than normal.

"Interesting..." The Zoroark shuffled around so she was fully facing me. "Are you sure you can remember? This is really important, maybe you can figure out how you got here?"

"Maybe, but I know it works better if something familiar happens, like a close feeling of deja vu." I shrugged lightly and turned away to gaze at the fake sky. "Everything's kinda fake now."

Loki hummed and thought long about what I said. It felt like this was important to her, so I decided to humor her.

"We can try to figure it out before the trial perhaps?" I turned to offer.

She seemed to be satisfied with this response and offered me a smiling nod. "Right."

LOKI'S POV

There was absolutely something up with Grace, I just couldn't understand how. I must have missed something earlier.

After rejoining with the investigation group I was quickly filled in on what they had discovered.

"The vent was closed." Luster walked over to inform me with a small frown. "Whoever did this must have been fast."

"Are we still under the assumption that this was a murder?" Sammy chimed in monotone. "This is our lives on the line."

"Vanta could have also been sick." Zantai crossed his arms in thought. "I don't think he'd tell anyone about that though."

"He's not above being honest, though." I quickly added. "I'm sure he would have admitted it if he trusted the person enough."

"This is getting quite difficult." Galant groaned in frustration. "Is this really a murder?"

"How do you explain the memory gem situation then?" Luster turned to reiterate. "I believe there's something else going on here."

"Unless we're talking about two separate things." Rayne mentioned. "For all we know these things could be unrelated."

"And yet the timing is somehow perfect?" Luster sighed in frustration.

Before the conversation could continue we quickly realized this was going nowhere. Sammy was the first person to walk over to the center of the room and put down a stern paw.

"The first thing is figuring out how Vanta died. I know it might be difficult but if we don't diagnose anything then we will all die for it." The Braixen practically ordered.
