it was currently four in the morning in los angeles where a girl sat in her home studio jotting down lyrics. the only sound heard was the soft hum of the tune to what would be her new song.

the brunettes humming was abruptly stopped when the piercing noise of her ringtone was heard. picking up her phone she answered upon seeing her mothers caller id.

"hi mom," imogen's voice was soft.

her mother took a shaky breath, "honey, i need you to come to the hospital."

imogen started panicking, her brother cameron had been having some recent health problems but it didn't seem to serious. but it never seems that way does it?

upon her daughters silence, "it's cam baby."
without wasting another breath she hung up and grabbed her car keys and left her home.

the rest of that night was a blur, she arrived to the hospital to hear her mother tell her that her brother had passed away in his sleep. his friend karan had found him. her ears rung as it finally hit her.

her older brother was gone.

imogen never performed another song again. only writing songs for other artists and producing. she couldn't perform again, a broken musician.

one of her closest friends, phoebe bridgers had released an album shortly after the death of cameron. imogen had written the song "funeral" for phoebe.

imogen never claimed credit for her songs but when the album dropped fans somehow knew that imogen had specifically written the song in her grief of her older brother. it was no coincidence that the album had dropped july 9 of 2019.

imogen had written the song after the funeral of her brother, gifting it to phoebe.

for july 6 of 2019 was the day that imogen libby boyce's life changed forever. she lost a part of herself when cameron died.
